Star Wars favourite joins live-action Tangled movie as mystery character

Okay, so this is huge news for anyone who loves Disney! Diego Luna – you know, the guy from Star Wars – is going to be in the live-action Tangled movie they’re making. Apparently, he’s playing a brand new character, but they’re not telling us anything about who he is yet. Deadline was the first to report it, and honestly, I’m already hyped to see what he brings to the role!

The mystery surrounding Luna’s role isn’t the only secret – the movie’s plot is also being kept under wraps. What we do know is that the film is based on the beloved Disney animated movie from 2010.

Okay, so the story starts with this princess, Rapunzel, who gets kidnapped when she’s a baby. This really awful woman, Mother Gothel, raises her, but it’s all about keeping Rapunzel for herself. Turns out Rapunzel’s hair has magical healing powers, and Gothel’s using it to stay young, which is why she locks Rapunzel away in this super tall tower. It’s a classic ‘villain uses the hero’s power for selfish reasons’ setup, you know?

Luna has joined the cast of the upcoming film, alongside Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, who will play Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. After much anticipation, Kathryn Hahn has also been confirmed to play Mother Gothel, a decision that fans are celebrating as ideal.

In March, Hahn hinted at playing a villainous role by updating her Instagram profile. She changed her bio to a line from a famous song sung by a movie villain, adopted the username “motherhahn,” and even posted a video showcasing a vintage T-shirt featuring the character Mother Gothel.

Fans flooded the comments with enthusiastic praise for Hahn, with one commenter calling her “MOTHER OF ALL MOTHERS.” Another fan excitedly wrote, “YESSSSS I’ve been hoping for this! It had to be you!”

Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman, will helm the upcoming remake. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor wrote the screenplay. Filming is scheduled to start in Spain this June, but we don’t yet know when it will be released.

Diego Luna, famous for playing Cassian Andor in the Star Wars films, recently co-wrote and directed a new drama called Ashes. The film is based on the novel Ceniza en la boca by Brenda Navarro and will debut at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.

The Tangled live-action adaptation doesn’t have a release date yet.
