The Star Wars franchise is aiming for a fresh start with its return to theaters this year. While past installments haven’t connected with audiences as strongly as before, Disney and Lucasfilm are working to recapture the magic and excitement that once made Star Wars a cultural phenomenon.
This could be a major year for Star Wars, with two highly anticipated releases planned. The popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian and Grogu is coming to theaters this summer, and Ahsoka is expected to return for a second season later in the year. It’s a great way to start the new era of Star Wars, offering something for everyone!
Well, there might be a bit of a problem there.
Disney leaves Ahsoka season 2 off release slate in 2026 preview kit
Disney recently shared a look at its upcoming projects with the media, detailing the major movies and shows planned for 2026. The preview included titles like Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again, Spider-Man, X-Men ’97, Avengers: Doomsday, a special presentation of The Punisher, and the new Mandalorian and Grogu series. Notably absent from the list was Ahsoka season two, which has worried fans who now fear the new season might not be released this year.
The first season of Ahsoka premiered on Disney+ in 2023. As a continuation of The Mandalorian, the show featured Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, a character fans had long hoped to see in live-action. Dawson first played Ahsoka in The Mandalorian, bringing to life a beloved character who originally appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Her performance was widely praised, and it was quickly announced that Ahsoka would return for a second season.

Big streaming shows often take years to produce, and the second season of Ahsoka is no exception. Filming wrapped up in October 2025, but with the extensive special effects needed for a Star Wars show, it won’t be ready until at least 2026. Some fans have noticed it’s missing from Disney’s 2026 schedule, and given the amount of post-production work required, a release date slipping to 2027 is quite possible.
It’s been a real rollercoaster with news about Ahsoka season 2. I’ve seen reports from other fans that Disney Plus briefly listed it as coming in 2026, but then others said they couldn’t find it there at all – almost like it was taken down again. Honestly, it’s left me right back where I started, completely unsure if we’ll be getting new episodes of Ahsoka’s story this year or if we’ll have to wait even longer.
Some fans worry that Disney’s choice to release Star Wars films in theaters might slow down the success of the shows connected to The Mandalorian on Disney Plus. While not every Star Wars series has been a hit, most of those linked to The Mandalorian have done well. Ahsoka was a particularly strong example, and it would be disappointing if the upcoming movies with The Mandalorian and Grogu caused that positive momentum to fade.
It’s unclear when Ahsoka season 2 will arrive, but it probably won’t be before summer. Disney Plus has several big shows planned for the first half of the year, and they’ll likely want to avoid releasing it at the same time as the The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. Given the current trend of reducing content, releasing two Star Wars projects so close together doesn’t make much business sense, meaning we’ll likely see Ahsoka season 2 in late 2026, assuming it’s still scheduled for release then.
