Daniel Ings, who starred in Star Wars: Starfighter, is praising the upcoming 2027 Star Wars film, describing it as having a rebellious, “punk feel” and a fantastic conclusion.
Peter Ings, known for playing Lyonel Baratheon in the HBO series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is also appearing in the new Star Wars film, Starfighter. Details about his role, as well as those of Ryan Gosling and other cast members, haven’t been revealed yet. The movie, directed by Shawn Levy and written by Jonathan Tropper, takes place about five years after The Rise of Skywalker and will tell a self-contained story with a new set of characters. Shawn Levy announced on Instagram in December 2025 that filming had finished.
During a conversation with Liam Crowley from ScreenRant about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, actor Ings described working on a Star Wars film as a strange but wonderful experience. He said director Levy created a positive atmosphere that felt grand in scale, yet still allowed for the same level of creativity as his other projects. Ings also mentioned he shared most of his scenes with Ryan Gosling, who he described as very playful. You can find Ings’ full comments below.
It’s still sinking in how much fun the whole experience was. Meeting director Shawn Levy for the audition, I immediately felt at ease. He creates a really playful and collaborative atmosphere where you can experiment and discover things organically. That instantly eased any nervousness I had about joining something as iconic and massive as Star Wars. Being on set felt surprisingly fun and creative, especially working with Ryan Gosling, who was always looking for interesting ways to play the scenes. It felt just as creatively fulfilling as working on smaller projects like Lovesick or The Gentlemen. I genuinely loved it.
Ings was questioned about the changes Levy had mentioned for the ending of Starfighter, and whether he was happy with how the movie finished. The A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms actor said he “loved it,” had no complaints, and called the whole film a true Star Wars experience.
I absolutely loved it. It was a fantastic experience, with no problems at all. It truly felt like Star Wars – every day on set was incredible, with droids, animatronics, and so many people in amazing, yet edgy, costumes. I felt excellent about the whole thing.
These comments echo Ryan Gosling’s earlier statement to ScreenRant, where he expressed complete trust in director Shawn Levy during the making of Starfighter. Given that Gosling is the film’s lead, it’s somewhat expected that he shared the majority of his scenes with co-star Mia Goth, but this is the first official confirmation of their extensive screen time together. The cast also includes Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Amy Adams.
Although The Mandalorian and Grogu is the next Star Wars film planned for release, excitement surrounding Starfighter feels unique because it’s a completely fresh story. The Mandalorian and Grogu builds on characters fans have enjoyed since 2019, and other Disney+ shows also tend to focus on familiar faces like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cassian Andor, and Ahsoka Tano. Starfighter, however, introduces entirely new characters and takes place in an unexplored era of the Star Wars universe.
With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Ings participated in a show that both dedicated Game of Thrones fans and new viewers enjoyed. Star Wars: Starfighter could have a similar effect, offering a fresh way to experience the franchise while still respecting its established history, according to Ings.
Star Wars: Starfighter releases in theaters on May 28, 2026.
