Star Wars: Andor’s Brilliant Female Characters Finally Get the Spotlight They Deserve
In discussing Tony Gilroy, who’s responsible for creating ‘Andor’, O’Reilly noted, “I must mention him specifically because he’s crafted a cast of exceptionally talented women. This isn’t just about playing female characters; we get to embody the essence of these women.
“Everybody is a Person”
Speaking as a passionate movie enthusiast, let me share my thoughts: Mon Mothma plays a multifaceted role in this series. She’s a nurturing mother, a devoted wife, a powerful senator, a potential threat, and a supportive ally. Each one of us is given the opportunity to portray our unique womanhood, which is truly remarkable and what makes this show exceptional. It’s this richness of character that resonates so deeply with viewers, reminding us all that we are individuals, each with our own stories.
Gilroy, who was involved in the script of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, believes this approach is logical for the show’s writing. “It’s not about magic, it’s simply about portraying characters as real people,” he explained.
Season 2 Already Getting High Praise
In 2022, the series “Andor” debuted on Disney+, offering a captivating backstory for the character Cassian Andor. Critics have hailed it as one of the finest prequels ever produced, likening its quality to that of “Better Call Saul.” Intriguingly, Rotten Tomatoes praised the second season of “Andor,” stating that they found it just as compelling, if not more so, than the initial season.

Gilroy on Legacy Characters
In a previous discussion with, it’s challenging to incorporate characters from other franchises into Andor. “Legacy characters can be quite costly and difficult to coordinate due to their schedules,” Gilroy explained. “We had hoped to include a few individuals (from other series) at the end of Yavin, who appeared in Rogue, but unfortunately, we couldn’t make it work because they were already occupied.
Andor Showrunner Will Leave the Star Wars Universe
As a seasoned movie critic who’s been part of the Star Wars universe for a decade and deeply immersed for six years, let me tell you, that’s a substantial portion of my cinematic journey. There are other stories to explore, but when Andor concludes, I believe I’ll have carved out a significant corner in the galaxy far, far away.
On April 22, Disney+ is set to launch the second season of the show titled “Andor,” with Diego Luna portraying Cassian Andor in the main role. The star-studded cast includes Stellan Skarsgård, Alan Tudyk, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, Bix Arjona, Varada Sethu, and Faye Marsay.
