On September 9th, a representative from the actor’s management agency, the Independent Artist Group, informed Deadline that the actor passed away at the age of 93 in his residence located in Dutchess County, New York.

CNN, who had utilized James’ voice for their ‘This is CNN’ announcements for numerous decades, expressed sorrow over his demise: “We are profoundly disheartened to learn of James’ passing. He was the voice of CNN, lending our brand an instant aura of authority, elegance, and refinement through his speech.
James had an exceptional voice, which is only one aspect we’ll all deeply miss. Our hearts go out to his loved ones during this time.
Jones was highly esteemed among American actors for his exceptional talent on both the stage and the big screen. He achieved the rare EGOT status by receiving multiple accolades: two Emmy Awards, a Grammy, an honorary Academy Award, as well as three Tony Awards during his lifetime.
His professional journey commenced on the Broadway stage during the late 1950s. Later, in 1964, he landed his debut film role as Lt. Lothar Zogg in “Dr. Strangelove.” Notable film appearances followed, such as acting alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Conan the Barbarian” (1982), featuring in the sports drama “Field of Dreams,” and sharing the screen with Eddie Murphy in “Coming to America.

Lately, Jones has lent his voice for the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, however, by 2022 it was made clear that he’s gradually reducing his participation in the Star Wars universe.
The unique tone of the actor’s voice played a significant role in him participating in numerous animated productions, such as voicing Mufasa in the 1994 movie version of The Lion King as well as its live-action adaptation.
