Star Wars actor Harrison Ford can finally check a key box off his resume

When considering the iconic actor Harrison Ford, one might naturally associate him primarily with cinema. However, Ford has left an indelible mark on film in masterpieces like Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, and even a brief appearance in Apocalypse Now. Moreover, his name is so intertwined with a distant galaxy that it’s unnecessary to mention the character – this being a Star Wars-themed website!

After over six decades of appearing in films, Ford has transitioned into a genuine TV star with his comedy-drama series “Shrinking”, partnering with Jason Segel. In this series, Ford portrays Paul Rhoades, a therapist grappling with Parkinson’s disease, who shares professional ties with Jimmy Laird, played by Segel (best known for his roles in “How I Met Your Mother” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”).

The show has been highly praised by critics and is set to return for another season, its third. Notably, Ford has garnered acclaim for his moving and realistic portrayal of a character battling Parkinson’s disease. As a result, he was even nominated for an Emmy Award.

Known for his no-nonsense, amusingly understated demeanor away from the spotlight, Ford displayed strong emotion as he commended the cast and crew on Apple TV’s Instagram post. In a lighthearted exchange, he even shared a humorous anecdote with fellow actor Segel.

At the age of 83, Ford has amassed numerous accolades throughout a prestigious career spanning several decades, including an Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and was honored as a Disney Legend in 2024. Yet, this marks his first Emmy nomination.

In an interview for Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, my fellow actor Jessica Williams, playing the role of my character’s wife Gaby, praised my acting abilities. Here’s how she put it: “I’ve never seen anyone so dedicated to their craft as Harrison Ford in this movie.

I’ve never witnessed better acting in person than on that day. It was truly an honor to be there. Often, I find myself thinking ‘That’s Harrison Ford!’ during performances, but that day, he turned a room full of people into spectators by making our jobs effortless and enjoyable.

The third season of “Shrinking” has been officially renewed by Apple, but a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet since filming just wrapped up not long ago. Additionally, it remains uncertain if this will be Jason Segel’s final season on the show, as his farewell message to the cast and crew was particularly emotional.

Ford has had a significant career in film, gaining fame for his roles in major movie series as previously stated, and also for films like “Air Force One” and this year’s “Captain America: Brave New World,” where he takes over from the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross (or the Red Hulk). Notably, he played the president of the United States in both productions.

Ford has made something of a resurgence on TV, moreover featuring in the show “1923,” a prequel to the Yellowstone series.

The 77th Emmy Awards will air on September 14.
