After nine years, Zachary Quinto is back as fan-favorite Vulcan Spock — just not for Star Trek.
Why is Zachary Quinto back in character as Spock?
Since the next Star Trek movie is facing delays, the medical drama Brilliant Minds is giving fans a treat. In an upcoming Halloween episode, Zach Quinto, who plays Dr. Oliver Wolf, will dress up as Spock, the first officer from the Star Trek Enterprise. He won’t be the only one getting into the spirit – Tamberla Perry, who plays Dr. Carol Pierce, will be dressing up as Uhura, Spock’s colleague and love interest from the recent Star Trek films.
ComicBook.com revealed the first images of Zachary Quinto and Kalinda Vazquez Perry dressed as their Star Trek characters, Spock and Uhura, for a Halloween event at the hospital. You can see the photos, shared via X (formerly Twitter), below.
Brilliant Minds, created by Michael Grassi, follows Dr. Oliver Wolf, a neurologist played by Zachary Quinto, who uses unique methods to diagnose his patients and uncover complex medical cases. The series is based on the fascinating case studies in Oliver Sacks’ books, including The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars. The cast also includes Zach Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Aury Krebs, Teddy Sears, John Clarence Stewart, Brian Altemus, and Al Calderon.
Ethan Peck’s return as Spock should satisfy fans while they wait for Paramount to greenlight a fourth Star Trek film set in the Kelvin timeline – a project that’s been in the works since July 2016. The movie has faced numerous obstacles since it was first announced, including several changes in writers and creative directors. Currently, Steve Yockey is writing the most recent version of the script.
Even though making another Star Trek movie has been challenging, Zach Quinto is still eager to play Spock again. He recently said he doesn’t understand why a fourth film hasn’t happened yet, but he’s hopeful that the recent merger between Skydance and Paramount will make it possible. Skydance has funded all the previous Star Trek movies and has been a great partner, and Quinto would love to return to the role.
The second season of Brilliant Minds will feature a Halloween episode called “The Doctor’s Graveyard,” which will be shown on NBC on October 27, 2025.
