Star Trek: The Original Series actress, Teri Garr, passes away at 79

As a long-time admirer of Teri Garr’s exceptional talent and resilient spirit, I find myself both saddened by her passing and deeply moved by her remarkable journey. From her humble beginnings as a backup dancer for Elvis Presley to her Oscar-nominated role in “Tootsie,” Teri embodied the true essence of a versatile artist.

Actress Teri Garr, known for her role as Roberta Lincoln in the final episode of Star Trek: The Original Series‘ second season (where she played Gary Seven’s assistant), has sadly passed away at the age of 79. Originally, the episode “Assignment Earth” was intended to serve as a trial run for a potential series focusing on Roberta and her time-traveling partner Gary Seven. However, the series wasn’t greenlit, and the project was ultimately abandoned. Despite this, Garr reportedly had negative feelings about Star Trek and chose not to discuss it or be connected with the show afterwards.

Initially, Garr made her mark in “Assignment Earth”, but she later gained more fame with an Oscar-nominated performance in “Tootsie”. She also took roles in “Young Frankenstein” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. Prior to these, she had spent years training as a dancer specializing in ballet, which led her to dance backup for Elvis Presley in six of his films.

Despite being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in the 90s, Garr managed to continue acting until her last project, a television series called “How to Marry a Billionaire,” as per IMDB records. However, she didn’t disclose her diagnosis until 2002. In 2006, she experienced a brain aneurysm that impacted her career in acting. She announced her retirement from acting in 2011, and according to her family, she passed away on October 29th due to complications from MS. [Source: People]

From 1993 to 1996, Garr was wedded to John O’Neill. During this time, they welcomed a daughter named Molly into their family through adoption. Besides Molly, Garr also leaves behind her grandson, Tyryn.

Expressing Heartfelt Sympathies: We are deeply saddened to convey our condolences to the family of Teri Garr. An immensely talented actress, she left an indelible mark on Hollywood that will be fondly remembered. Star Trek enthusiasts will forever cherish her portrayal of Roberta Lincoln in “Assignment Earth.
