Star Trek superfan turns his home into a starship dubbed Arcadia
As a fellow Trekkie, I find myself utterly captivated by the extraordinary journey and dedication of Jason Roach from Halifax, Nova Scotia. With his passion for Star Trek spanning over four decades, it’s no wonder that he has transformed his humble abode into a marvelous tribute to the franchise.
This year, Star Trek Day falls on Sunday. It’s the special day when fans of the franchise enthusiastically celebrate in various ways, such as donning their preferred costume at work, expanding their Star Trek collection, playing a video game, or marathon-watching their favorite series. Some even travel to Riverside, Iowa to visit Captain James T. Kirk’s birthplace. However, some fans opt to celebrate throughout the year instead of confining their celebrations to just one day. One such ardent fan is Jason Roach from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
In a captain’s uniform reminiscent of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Roach – who has accumulated Star Trek memorabilia for more than four decades – recently appeared on Global News. He showcased some amazing video clips as part of his tribute to the franchise and discussed what initially drew him into the realm of Star Trek.
His personalized spacecraft boasts a custom-built bridge, a lounge area, and the capability to activate the Red Alert system when needed – as showcased in the video. All these systems were self-designed by Roach, allowing him to create virtually anything he desires for his starship design.
Ever since I was a young kid, Star Trek had been captivating my imagination. Although I’d been a fan beforehand, it wasn’t until I saw “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” at nine years old that I truly fell in love with the franchise. That iconic twelve-minute tour of the Enterprise reeled me in completely, sparking an ambition within me to build my own dream starship.
As a passionate collector, I’ve been amassing treasures even before the internet era. While it’s hard to pinpoint the exact amount I’ve invested in retrofitting my home over the years, I can assure you it hasn’t been cheap!
I don’t even know how much I’ve got sunk into this. I’ve been collecting for 40 years. I was collecting before the internet was a thing. I was going through magazines at comic book shops that I was getting in the States and ordering stuff.
Explore Roach’s residence as we begin celebrating Star Trek Day. This journey might inspire you with some unique ideas if you’re considering a makeover for your own home!
