Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will begin filming earlier than expected next year

As a dedicated Star Trek: Strange New Worlds enthusiast who’s been navigating the galaxy of fandom for decades, I must say, the news about season four has me beaming with excitement! After the agonizing wait between seasons two and three, it’s refreshing to see things moving at a more brisk pace.

Though we’re unsure about the exact release date for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3, it will air sometime in 2025. Interestingly, production for Season 4 was initially planned for the spring of next year, but according to Paul Wesley, who plays Lt. Kirk, filming for Season 4 will resume in February 2025 instead. Due to the significant gap between the second and third seasons, it’s not surprising that things are progressing more swiftly with season four. Filming for season three concluded in May 2024, having started in December 2023. Similarly, season two required the same duration of filming time, from February 2022 to July 2022. Therefore, we anticipate that filming for season four will be completed around July as well. Since season three won’t start airing until next year, we expect that season four won’t debut until 2026. This maintains the series’ one-season-per-year schedule and gets it back on its original track.

Season two concluded with a suspenseful moment as Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew found themselves confronting the menacing Gorn again. Similar to what happened with Hemmer (Bruce Horak) in season one, Captain Batel (Melanie Scrofano) was infected by Gorn eggs. Hemmer sacrificed himself for the Enterprise’s safety, but Pike decided to save Captain Batel and brought her on board the ship in an attempt to find a cure.

It’s clear from the initial trailer that the season won’t solely concentrate on heavy themes, as Captain Pike and his crew are transformed into Vulcans for a task. However, something goes wrong with the cure to revert them back to normal. On the other hand, it seems unlikely that the Gorn have been completely eliminated from the picture, given their similarity to the Borg in terms of being a significant antagonist.
