Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Hit With Even More Bad News

Paramount+ revealed plans for a new season earlier this year. While viewers were initially enthusiastic about the third season when it launched in July, ratings declined as the season progressed.

According to Nielsen data, *Strange New Worlds* started strong in its third season, appearing in the Top 10 of streaming charts for a few weeks. However, viewership dropped significantly as the season went on, and the show stopped appearing in the rankings. Notably, the week of September 8th to 14th – when the season finale aired – *Strange New Worlds* wasn’t listed among the Top 10 original streaming programs.

From September 8th to 14th, Netflix’s *Wednesday* was the most-watched original show, followed by *Beauty in Black, Aka Charlie Sheen*, *Only Murders in the Building*, and *The Summer I Turned Pretty* completing the top five, according to Nielsen’s ratings. In comparison, *Strange New Worlds* was seventh on the chart for the week of July 14th to 20th, shortly after its third season premiered on July 17th. While *Strange New Worlds* briefly returned to the top 10 during its fourth week, viewership declined and it didn’t appear on the chart again.

So far, the series has received mixed reactions. Fans have given the latest season (Season 3) a 52% rating after over 500 reviews, while critics give it a much higher score of 90%. Earlier seasons were better received by fans, with Season 1 earning an 81% audience score and Season 2 getting 77%.

What are Trek Fans Saying About Season 3 of Strange New Worlds?

Viewers on Rotten Tomatoes shared mixed opinions about the show. Some criticized it for lacking traditional space exploration, with one commenter pointing out that it primarily takes place on a space station. Another viewer felt it resembled a 90s sitcom, saying they didn’t want to watch “Friends in space.” One person noted a decline in quality from season two to three, and expressed concern about the direction of season four. A different viewer felt the show didn’t respect established “Star Trek” storylines. However, one Rotten Tomatoes reviewer praised season three as the show’s best, highlighting consistently well-made episodes and calling it a return to true “Star Trek” storytelling.

The actors for *Strange New Worlds* are currently filming the fifth season. The previous season featured the *U.S.S. Enterprise* and its crew battling a dangerous space storm that almost left their ship powerless.

I’m so excited about *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds* – you can watch it on Paramount+! We’re all waiting for news about when Season 4 will start, but there’s no premiere date announced yet.
