The new series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy aims to answer some lingering questions from previous Star Trek shows. Produced by Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, the show will debut on Paramount+ on Thursday, January 15, 2026, with the first two episodes available at once.
Set in the 33rd century, after the events of Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is now the furthest point in the Star Trek timeline. This allows the show to draw on the entire history of Star Trek, referencing a thousand years of established stories and characters.
The upcoming series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, hints that students might discover what happened to Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) after Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Specifically, it may reveal if he ever returned as he mentioned at the end of that show.
Unlike resources like Memory Alpha or Wikipedia, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is a TV show focused on storytelling. It features both new and returning characters, and tells an original story about a mystery and the threat posed by the villain Nus Braka (played by Paul Giamatti) to the United Federation of Planets.
Starfleet Academy cadets have always been able to learn about the history of Star Trek, both old and new. Plus, the latest Star Trek series on Paramount+ might finally explain some lingering questions from shows like Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Section 31.
What Did Q Want With Jack Crusher At The End Of Star Trek: Picard?

The third season of Star Trek: Picard concluded with a surprising scene after the credits. Q (played by John de Lancie) reappeared and shifted his attention from Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) to Picard’s son, Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), indicating a new focus for his enigmatic interest.
Q seemingly died in the second season of Star Trek: Picard, but as an all-powerful being, he isn’t bound by normal death. It remains unclear how he came back, and what role Jack Crusher will play in a larger, cosmic story connected to Q.
Many fans are hoping to see resolutions to the cliffhanger involving Q from Star Trek: Picard, and to follow the adventures of Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) commanding the USS Enterprise-G. They believe these stories might still happen in Star Trek: Legacy, potentially as a new TV show or a movie produced by Paramount Skydance.
Since the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3 hinted at what might happen with the USS Enterprise-G, fans have consistently asked for a new show called Star Trek: Legacy. However, many would rather see Captain Seven’s story continued directly, instead of just mentioned in another series.
It would be great to see a reference to Star Trek: Legacy in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, just to confirm to fans that the events of Legacy still happened and haven’t been forgotten.
As a fan, I’m really hoping we get a little clue about what Q had planned for Jack Crusher. It would be such a satisfying moment, a little something to appreciate while we wait, and it would perfectly set things up for Star Trek: Legacy – which so many of us are eagerly anticipating!
What Happened To Emperor Georgiou After Star Trek: Section 31?

The Star Trek: Section 31 story concluded with Emperor Philippa Georgiou, played by Michelle Yeoh, joining Omari Hardwick’s character, Alok Sahar, in Section 31’s Alpha Team. She was then assigned a new, secret mission by Control, portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis.
After the events of Star Trek: Section 31, the fate of Emperor Georgiou in the 24th century remains a mystery. Officially, there’s no established information about what happened to her after that point.
Although Star Trek: Section 31 performed well on streaming despite negative reviews and disapproval from many Star Trek fans, Paramount Skydance’s new leadership is focusing on different projects. This means a sequel to Star Trek: Section 31 won’t be made.
Sadly, Star Trek: Section 31 concludes the story of Emperor Georgiou. The former ruler from the Mirror Universe is now stuck in Star Trek‘s unexplored timeline. Because of events in Star Trek: Discovery, she can’t return to the 32nd century – another trip through time would be fatal for her.
The upcoming series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, will reveal what happened to Philippa Georgiou after she was reformed in Star Trek: Section 31. This could be through a guest appearance by Michelle Yeoh, who won an Academy Award, or by directly addressing Georgiou’s story.
What Came Next For The USS Prodigy After Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2?

The finale of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 connects to events from Star Trek: Picard. It revisits the devastating attack on Mars on First Contact Day in 2385, when artificial lifeforms rebelled and destroyed the Utopia Planetia Fleet Yards, resulting in the deaths of 92,000 people and setting the planet ablaze.
The attack on Mars in 2385, depicted in Star Trek, severely weakened the United Federation of Planets. As a result, the Federation retreated inward, abandoned its effort to save the Romulans from a dying star, and stopped exploring new areas of the galaxy.
So, after everything that happened, Admiral Janeway – Kate Mulgrew, of course – decided to give the young crew from the Protostar a fresh start. She put them in command of a brand-new ship, the USS Prodigy, and tasked them with a pretty amazing mission: to explore beyond Federation space and basically show the rest of the galaxy what Starfleet is all about. It’s like a first contact team, but with teenagers! I’m really excited to see where they go and who they meet.
Sadly, Netflix won’t be making a third season of Star Trek: Prodigy, leaving the future of the USS Prodigy uncertain. Fans hoping to learn what happened to the characters might find updates in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which shares a similar style and setting.
What Became Of Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Starbase 80 Guarding The Multiverse Wormhole?

As a huge Star Trek fan, I was thrilled to see season 5 of Lower Decks dive into the multiverse – and it did so brilliantly! The season ended with the USS Cerritos actually managing to create a stable wormhole to other universes, which reminded me a lot of how the Gamma Quadrant portal worked in Deep Space Nine. It’s exciting to think about where they’ll go with that!
Under Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis), Starbase 80 was positioned to protect the wormhole connecting different universes. Meanwhile, Captain William Boimler (Jack Quaid) and the crew of the USS Anaxinar began investigating those alternate realities.
The finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks hinted at a vast, limitless multiverse, but sadly, the show’s cancellation left the fate of Starbase 80 and that multiverse unresolved. Now, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has the potential to provide those answers.
With Captain Jack Ransom (Jerry O’Connell) now in command, the USS Cerritos continued its Second Contact mission, supported by its two First Officers, Lieutenants Bradward Boimler (Jack Quaid) and Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome).
We’re excited that Tawny Newsome joined the writing team for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and helped maintain consistency with the existing Star Trek universe. Fans are hoping she included connections to Star Trek: Lower Decks, particularly updates on the USS Cerritos and its crew, in the first season of Starfleet Academy.
What Was The USS Discovery’s Next Mission In Star Trek: Discovery Season 6?

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is a direct continuation of the world established in Star Trek: Discovery. The show builds upon the 32nd-century version of Starfleet Academy that was first shown in the fourth season of Star Trek: Discovery.
Okay, so the fifth season of Star Trek: Discovery wrapped up with a really sweet moment. Captain Burnham – Sonequa Martin-Green plays her, and she’s fantastic – finally got back together with Booker, David Ajala’s character. It all happened at the wedding of Saru, played by Doug Jones, and T’Rina, who’s the Vulcan President of Ni’Var and portrayed by Tara Rosling. It was a genuinely heartwarming way to end things!
After Book rejoined Captain Burnham aboard the USS Discovery, the ship embarked on a new mission. However, viewers never learned the details of that mission, as the show Star Trek: Discovery was not renewed for a sixth season.
It seems like the first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy takes place around the same time as, or shortly after, what would have been the sixth season of Star Trek: Discovery. This makes sense because characters from the USS Discovery, like Lt. Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) and Commander Jett Reno (Tig Notaro), are now instructors at Starfleet Academy.
For fans curious about what might have happened in a sixth season of Star Trek: Discovery, and where Captain Burnham and the USS Discovery ended up, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy offers the best look.
If Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2 is successful, and if the show continues, characters from Star Trek: Discovery – such as Admiral Saru or Captain Burnham – might appear in the new Star Trek series on Paramount+.
