Star Trek Star Explains How Characters Would Survive in The Walking Dead Universe
Sonequa Martin-Green thinks that one of her characters could excel in both “The Walking Dead” and “Star Trek”. Known primarily for her role as Michael Burnham in “Star Trek: Discovery” from 2017 to 2024, she also played Sasha Williams on “The Walking Dead” from 2012 to 2018. In addition to these two notable roles, she has appeared in “Space Jam: A New Legacy” (2021), “My Dead Friend Zoe” (2024), and ABC’s “Once Upon a Time”.
During a chat with Joe Deckelmeier at FanExpo Dallas’ Star Trek panel, Sonequa Martin-Green contemplated the impact of her roles in both Star Trek and The Walking Dead. Specifically, Decklemeier asked her to imagine how these characters would fare in each other’s worlds. Although Martin-Green had not considered this question before, she swiftly concluded that Michael (her Star Trek character) would thrive best if they crossed paths, even though Michael might encounter a more perilous time. You can read her reasoning further down.
ScreenRant: It seems to me that Michael Burnham from Star Trek might handle a zombie apocalypse quite distinctly compared to any character in The Walking Dead. Pondering over the concept of Sasha being part of Star Trek is truly intriguing. How would they fare in each other’s worlds?
ScreenRant: Michael Burnham from Star Trek might approach a zombie apocalypse differently than any character in The Walking Dead. Imagine Sasha from The Walking Dead in the Star Trek universe – it’s an interesting concept to consider how they would fare in each other’s worlds.
Sonequa Martin-Green:Wow, this is great! You’re handling two utterly distinct timeframes… I’ve never encountered that question in my lifetime. It seems to me that traveling back to the past might be simpler? Zombies or extraterrestrials… I guess Sasha would likely be very guarded, and it’s almost like saying, “No, no, this alien isn’t a threat.”
I believe Michael has the potential to excel in The Walking Dead. To put it plainly, she seems to have a knack for taking charge. She possesses this ability to strategize and execute plans effectively. She’s goal-oriented and adept at solving problems. If given the opportunity, I think she would adapt well to the situation and prove to be extremely useful.
What This Means For Star Trek’s Future
A Crossover With The Walking Dead Is Not Likely
It’s quite improbable for a crossover since “Star Trek” belongs to Paramount Global and “The Walking Dead” to AMC Studios, and despite occasional merger speculations, neither has occurred yet, keeping these realms separate. Contemplating a potential crossover could shed light on the unique characteristics of each universe’s protagonists and the traits required to thrive in their respective worlds. For instance, “Walking Dead” characters might struggle due to their lack of exposure to advanced technology, but it’s intriguing to imagine such a scenario.
From my perspective as a dedicated fan, it’s fascinating how contrasting the realms of “Star Trek” and “The Walking Dead” can be, particularly when dissecting their underlying themes. While “The Walking Dead” presents a bleak landscape where each moment is tainted by the constant fear of imminent death for anyone, “Star Trek” stands as a testament to a future filled with optimism, unity, and the unwavering belief that we must persevere together, no matter what challenges lie ahead.
However, there’s one striking similarity between these two universes: each crew member is expected to make a significant impact on the mission. In the face of adversity, it’s our collective contributions that ultimately shape the course of our journey.
Our Take On Martin-Green’s Star Trek And Walking Dead Ideas
She Is Certainly Right About Michael
In the event that all crews must depend on each other for survival, characters from Star Trek could easily adapt to an apocalyptic scenario, as suggested by Martin-Green. Among them, Michael stands out particularly, given her intelligence, adaptability, and resilience. However, she might face challenges in obeying orders during crises, a situation common in The Walking Dead. Yet, her other attributes would likely help her find a compatible group. Though she may not hold the title of captain amidst walkers, it would be intriguing to witness her endeavors to establish her own civilization.
