Star Trek: Origins movie officially in pre-production

As a seasoned gamer and lifelong Star Trek enthusiast, I must confess that my excitement for this upcoming movie, “Star Trek: Origins,” is tinged with a touch of trepidation. With its pre-production stage already underway, I can’t help but recall the rollercoaster ride of emotions we’ve been on with previous films in the franchise.

It’s the movie that fans just aren’t sure about. Star Trek: Origins will be set in the Prime Timeline, and according to past reports, it will be set pre-Enterprise, long before Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: Enterprise, and cover Earth’s first contact with the Vulcans, which was already done in Star Trek: First Contact. That’s just one of the issues fans see coming from a mile away. That said, the movie is going forward regardless.

Based on Screenrant’s report, preparations for the upcoming film are underway. It is expected that production will kick off in early 2025. The script is being penned by Seth Grahame-Smith, and Toby Haynes is set to direct, with Simon Kinberg taking up the role of producer.

Despite past disappointments in the film series, this upcoming installment could potentially disrupt the established timeline or commit a significant mistake similar to Star Trek: Discovery with its Klingon redesign. Moreover, since it’s intended for theatrical release, it will boast a substantial budget, likely resulting in a visually polished and modernized look that may stray from the vintage aesthetic expected of such productions.

It’s uncertain if Star Trek: Origins kicks off a new series of sequels, but this much is certain: If Paramount doesn’t deliver with this film, there will be many disgruntled fans expressing their dissatisfaction. Such discontent could potentially harm the prospects of future Star Trek movies, including the potential Star Trek 4.
