Star Trek guest star Tony Todd passes away at 69

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the galaxies of Star Trek and the haunting worlds of horror, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Tony Todd. Known to many as the imposing figure of Kurn, but also as the chilling presence behind Candyman and the Grim Reaper in Final Destination, his talent was undeniable.

Known to Star Trek enthusiasts as Kurn, the Klingon warrior and son of Mogh, who was also the biological younger brother of Worf (portrayed by Michael Dorn), Tony Todd has sadly passed away on November 6th at the age of 69. This was just one month before his 70th birthday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Todd’s wife, Fatima, shared that he passed away at their residence in Marina del Ray, California, following a prolonged illness.

Todd had a significant association with the Star Trek series, but he was equally cherished in two horror movie franchises, namely Candyman and Final Destination. In a heartfelt tribute, New Line Cinema acknowledged his passing on their Instagram page as, “We have lost an icon in the film industry.

Standing at a striking 6 feet 5 inches tall and possessing a resonant, deep voice, Todd commanded presence both on screen and in recorded media. With an impressive 245 credits to his name as per IMDb, and eleven ongoing projects, he is a prolific figure in the entertainment industry.

As a dedicated Trekker, I can add that I’ve also seen Todd in Star Trek: Voyager’s “Prey,” playing a formidable Hirogan Alpha, but he truly shined in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In “The Visitor,” a performance that made DS9 so indelible according to one critic, I had the privilege of watching him portray an aged Jake Sisko. A fan’s touching tribute on a YouTube video of Jake Sisko’s last scene read, “Rest in peace, Tony. It was time to let go.

Todd leaves behind his spouse and two offspring. On behalf of Red Shirts Always Die, we extend our sincerest sympathies to his family, acquaintances, and dear ones. May you find tranquility in your eternal slumber, Tony Todd.
