Star-Lord’s newest adventure has taken a surprising turn that many Marvel fans aren’t happy about. Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, is usually a beloved leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, though he’s made a few mistakes – like his emotional outburst at Thanos in Infinity War.

Although Chris Pratt is likely to continue playing the character in movies and TV shows, the comic book version of the character is now involved in a significantly more serious and disturbing story.

In Marvel Comics, Star-Lord started making morally questionable choices when he became determined to safeguard the galaxy. During the Annihilation Conquest story arc, his desire to prevent another large-scale threat, such as a Phalanx invasion, caused him to use Mantis’s mind-reading abilities to control the Guardians of the Galaxy.

He increasingly justified bending his own rules for what he believed was a larger purpose, especially after the conclusion of Imperial #4. In the final issue, he chose to support his father J’Son’s plans instead of acting like a typical Marvel Cinematic Universe hero.

In the fourth issue of Imperial, Star-Lord claims the throne of the Spartax Empire after his sister, Victoria, falls into a coma. He uses his newfound abilities hoping to protect her while ruling.

He’s instrumental in creating the Galactic Union, but this achievement is overshadowed by a dark secret: the Union was founded on deceit, and many innocent people suffered as a result. This betrayal deeply upsets old friends like Nova, who are angered by the Union’s questionable ethics, leading to a significant rift between the two heroes.

Although Nova is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a member of the Nova Corps, the character hasn’t appeared in any of the films yet. However, a previously planned TV show could potentially be adapted into a movie in the future.

In the comics, Peter Quill, known as Star-Lord, has changed. He’s no longer the lighthearted hero fans are used to from the Marvel movies. Instead, he’s become more willing to compromise his values and pursue power, much like his father.

It’s uncertain if the Marvel Cinematic Universe will follow the same approach as other franchises, particularly with the conclusion of the Guardians of the Galaxy series and James Gunn’s departure as writer and director of Star-Lord. This shift could worry some fans.

Marvel has confirmed Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, will appear in future projects. At the conclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he went back to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather, leaving the door open for his return.

The fact that he has roots in a divine world opens up exciting possibilities for films like Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, allowing them to introduce fresh powers and stories. However, it’s probably unlikely the movies will go as far as the comics in portraying a darker, more complex moral side to the character.
