Dragon Quest 7 (known as Dragon Warrior 7 in North America) was originally released for the PlayStation in 2000. It continued the series’ tradition of using 2D sprites, which felt somewhat outdated compared to the 3D graphics seen in games like Final Fantasy at the time. Later, in 2013, a complete 3D remake came out for the Nintendo 3DS. This version included improvements to make the game more user-friendly, fixed some problems, and added entirely new content.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Is Cutting Tons Of Content
Dragon Quest 7 is being remade again, with a new version called Dragon Quest Reimagined planned for release in 2026. This remake will feature a fresh art style, moving away from the classic Toriyama look and aiming for a significantly improved visual quality compared to earlier versions of the game. Despite the excitement, there are some concerns surrounding Dragon Quest 7.
In a recent interview with Famitsu, it was disclosed that Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is removing a considerable amount of content, which will significantly shorten the game’s playtime. While it may offer visual improvements, it appears to be a step back in almost every other aspect. Dragon Quest 7 was already considered one of the shorter entries in the series, and this content reduction suggests the remake will likely be met with criticism as well.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Removed Things Players Will Miss
The biggest change in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is that the casino has been taken out. Casinos have often appeared in Dragon Quest games, letting players gamble for money and unusual items. There was a valid reason for this removal, though: some countries give games with gambling features a higher age rating. This is also the reason why the Pokémon series removed areas where players could gamble.
Additionally, the Immigrant Town, also called The Haven, is no longer included. This was a feature that appeared in previous games, allowing players to hire characters while exploring the world and send them to a town to earn money and sell things. The reason for removing this sidequest/area isn’t known, but it significantly added to the game’s content. It’s unclear why it was cut.
Three areas – Grondal, El Ciclo, and Providence – and their associated stories have been taken out of the game. While each location had its own plot, they weren’t essential to the main story, so they were removed. It makes sense why Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined would cut locations to make the game flow better. The original game is known for having a very long main quest, one of the longest in video game history. However, this is still content that has been removed from the original game.
Dragon Quest 7 wasn’t perfect – the beginning felt slow and it took a while before you could really get into the character classes and gameplay. The developers should have focused on streamlining those early parts by rearranging content, instead of simply removing large sections of the game. Although this game isn’t widely considered a failure, it certainly deserved a better treatment.
