Square Enix shuts down Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition on iOS due to a DLC bug
Story Highlights
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition has only been discontinued on iOS and remains available on other platforms.
- The team was unable to fully resolve the bug and implement the necessary changes, which led to the game’s shutdown on iOS.
- You can request a refund for any additional content purchased since January 2024.
Square Enix has chosen to discontinue the service for their RPG, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition on iOS, as a persistent issue with paid add-ons cannot be fixed. This updated version of the game was launched on mobile devices back in August 2020.
The game had to be removed due to a bug that affected paid additional content
If you’re unfamiliar, the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is a revamped version of the original 2003 role-playing game for Nintendo GameCube. This updated edition boasts new elements such as the ability to play with others online and across different platforms.
Sadly, we have to inform you that the game Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is no longer accessible on iOS devices as of now. If you’ve made any in-app purchases after January 2024, you can submit a refund request. For further details, kindly refer to this link: [insert link here]

Sadly, I’ve learned through their updates on X (previously Twittersphere), the team behind Final Fantasy has decided to withdraw the game from iOS. Apparently, there have been problems for players who can’t seem to access previously bought add-on content on this platform.
The issue with the game arose due to modifications in Apple’s in-app purchase system. They admitted that they couldn’t fully address the bug and incorporate the new changes, making it improbable to restart the service for the game. As a result, they chose to discontinue the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles version on iOS.
Players can request a refund as well provided they purchased additional content
Here’s a more conversational way of presenting the information: Starting from January 2024 purchases within the app, users are eligible for refunds on any additional content purchased. To request a refund, simply reach out to Apple Support and ask for a refund. You can also contact the FF support center regarding related matters until August 31, 2025.
The developers have also confirmed that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will be playable on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, as well as Android devices. This means iOS users can opt to play the game on these alternative platforms. I’m glad the game continues to be accessible on multiple systems, especially in light of recent closures like King’s Raid, Atelier Resleriana, and others.
