Spyro 4 Accidentally “Confirmed” Early, Brace Yourselves

I’d love to see a lot of classic game franchises make a comeback, and Spyro the Dragon is high on that list. Crash Bandicoot has seen a few different studios try to revive it over the years, but Spyro hasn’t had much attention since 2008, except for being featured in the Skylanders games and the 2018 remake, Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

There’s a possibility we might see a fourth Spyro game, and the news is coming from an unexpected place – LinkedIn. If this information is accurate, Microsoft could be planning to bring the series back.

Many fans are excited about the possibility of a new Spyro game! Toys For Bob, the studio behind previous Spyro titles, is now independent but still collaborating with Microsoft. A former Toys For Bob developer mentioned working on a Spyro project within the last year on their LinkedIn profile, leading some to believe Spyro 4 might be in development, though details are still scarce.

The Spyro series has a long and interesting history, which means there are many possibilities for its future. Toys For Bob recently released Crash Team Rumble, a competitive online game featuring the Crash Bandicoot universe. Considering the significant changes Microsoft has made recently, almost anything could happen with the Spyro franchise.

Having watched many mascot-driven platforming games come and go, a fresh start with a reimagined world feels like the strongest approach. Spyro’s classic look is instantly recognizable, and the idea of playing as a dragon that breathes fire should appeal to both children and adults.

I always loved how the original Spyro games really made you feel like you were exploring these amazing 3D worlds – it was more than just running and jumping! And after seeing what Toys For Bob did with Crash Bandicoot 4, I’d be totally confident letting them take on another classic franchise like this.

Rumors of a new Spyro game have surfaced before. We saw hints of it in the art book for Crash Bandicoot 4, and the developers, Toys For Bob, are now working on a new project with Microsoft. This new game could very well be Spyrorelated, as Toys For Bob previously spent five years creating the Skylanders* series – a style they clearly excel at.

Man, I really hope Spyro gets another big game someday. It’s a shame the whole toys-to-life thing kinda died out – Skylanders is done, and now it feels like Spyro’s just been getting remasters and little appearances in other games. He deserves more than that, you know? I’d love to see a full-on new Spyro adventure!
