New spy thriller Black Bag has set an impressive new record for its leading stars, Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender.
Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Black Bag stars the pair as husband-and-wife intelligence agents Kathryn and George Woodhouse.
When Kathryn is suspected of betraying the nation, George must choose between his loyalty to his wife and his country.
After hitting the big screen on March 14, the spy thriller has received an almost flawless rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes – earning it the title of the highest-rated film in both Michael Fassbender’s and Cate Blanchett’s acting careers.
Previously, Michael Fassbender’s top-rated film was the 2024 comedy-drama “Kneecap,” which boasts a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating of 96%. Not far behind are “12 Years A Slave” (95%) and “The Shadow of Violence” (94%).
Despite having two documentaries, namely “Journey to the South Pacific” and “Jill Bilcock: Dancing the Invisible”, both boasting a perfect 100% rating, Black Bag stands as Blanchett’s highest-rated acting role on the site.
Other Blanchett films that are rated highly include Shayda (97% critics’ rating but a 59% audience rating, ranking it lower than Black Bag), Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (96%), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (95%) and Carol (94%).
Black Bag also stars Bridgerton‘s Regé-Jean Page, Back to Black‘s Marisa Abela, The Lazarus Project‘s Tom Burke, and James Bond stars Pierce Brosnan and Naomie Harris.
