Spotify Wrapped 2024 crowns Taylor Swift streaming queen while exposing truth about Beyonce’s shock decline
As a music enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the ever-evolving world of pop culture, I must say that this year’s streaming charts are a testament to the diversity and dynamism of today’s musical landscape.
For the second consecutive year, Spotify crowned Taylor Swift as their 2024 Global Top Artist. On the other hand, Beyoncé did not make it into any of the top ten artists for this particular year.
34-year-old Rihanna, known for her chart-topping song “Karma,” has been recognized as a global streaming queen by a major music company, amassing over 26.6 billion plays worldwide.
This year, Swift ruled supreme on Spotify Wrapped, consistently appearing at the top of the most-streamed artist, album, and song categories.
Contrarily, Beyonce’s acclaimed album “Cowboy Carter” and its hit single “Texas Hold ‘Em”, as well as Beyonce herself at 43 years old, are absent from the top ten list, indicating a surprising drop in her streaming popularity.
The news is likely to stir up her passionate fan group, the Beyhive, given that it was published a day after Billboard named Beyoncé as the Top Pop Star of the 21st Century, with Taylor Swift following closely behind.
Taylor took up three spots on the Most-Streamed Albums Globally list.
The recently published album titled “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology,” which came out in April, claimed the number one position.
In 2023, I added another feather to my cap as my reworked album 1989 (Taylor’s Version) claimed the sixth position on the charts. Three years earlier, in 2019, my album Lover joined it, earning the eighth spot. These accomplishments are a testament to the timeless resonance of my music and the unwavering support of my fans.
Additionally, Swift led the chart for Most-Streamed Artists in the United States by securing the number one position, and she claimed two positions on the Top Streamed Albums in the U.S., even occupying the top spot among them.
Spotify is expressing its gratitude to Swifties by presenting Taylor Swift with a unique Global Top Artist Award for the first time. This recognition will now appear on her Spotify artist profile.
Listeners enjoying her music on Spotify will discover hidden gems and exclusive treats, as a special thank you from her to her devoted fans.
Lastly, her fans will find special 2024 Wrapped friendship bracelets on Snapchat.
On Tuesday, Billboard clarified their decision for selecting Beyoncé as the top pop star of the 21st century instead of Taylor Swift, following a significant uproar among Swift’s fans.
According to their statement, although Taylor Swift holds the title of the most successful pop artist this century statistically, Beyoncé takes the top spot on our team’s personal list due to her significant impact, influence, and growth over the past 25 years.
In simpler terms, writer Andrew Unterberger stated that Ariana Grande came very close to overtaking Beyoncé in these particular rankings, and she actually has a significant edge over Beyoncé in several crucial areas when it comes to statistics.
Yet, Taylor’s presence hasn’t been substantial enough yet to rival the scope of her 25-year reign.
In essence, Andrew stated that if we only consider the quantity of records, Taylor Swift would undoubtedly lead this chart. He also mentioned that despite starting later, Taylor Swift has an equal number of No.1 albums and No.1 singles this century as Beyoncé does.
In discussing exceptional achievements in the 21st century, there’s no one who boasts a more extensive and comprehensive history than Beyoncé.
Previously, Taylor Swift’s ardent supporters had expressed that the accuracy of the music magazine’s lists was often questionable and deemed her placement as unfair or unjustified.
After Beyoncé, whose eighth studio album, “Cowboy Carter,” was released on March 29, didn’t get nominated for any CMA Awards. (In a more conversational tone: Beyoncé dropped her eighth studio album, “Cowboy Carter,” on March 29, but she wasn’t nominated in the CMA Awards.)
Country artist Cowboy Carter delivered to Beyhive fans an album containing 27 tracks, boasting musical legends like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson. The collection includes popular hits such as “Texas Hold Em'” and a fresh take on the well-known tune “Jolene.
Following the release of “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” by 14-time Grammy winner Taylor on April 18, an unprecedented event occurred in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 as all 31 tracks claimed spots within the top 14 at the same time.
On the music streaming platform Spotify, Taylor Swift’s listeners amount to an average of 91.6 million every month. Taylor’s album TTPD entered record books by amassing a billion streams within a week, which is equivalent to five days.
Regardless of their rival fan bases, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé have frequently shown public solidarity towards one another, particularly after Kanye West’s controversial stage interruption during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. This support was more evident in the years that followed.
At the Video Music Awards, Kanye West famously interrupted Taylor Swift while she was accepting the award for Video of the Year for “You Belong With Me,” to assert that Beyoncé should have won for “Single Ladies.” This moment brought a public rivalry between the two pop stars into the spotlight.
Beyonce made sure to shut down Kanye’s sentiments and the two pop megastars are still friends.
In the year 2023, Swift was present at Beyoncé’s premiere of Renaissance in London. Throughout the years, they have publicly expressed their backing for one another through various social media platforms.
As I eagerly follow the music scene, it’s been announced that The Weeknd, a Canadian sensation, ranked second among the most-streamed artists of 2024 on Spotify’s global list, just behind Taylor. Meanwhile, Bad Bunny, a talented Puerto Rican rapper and singer, claimed the third spot.
Regardless of his dispute with Kendrick Lamar, rapper Drake claimed the fourth position. Billie Eilish came in fifth, while Travis Scott occupied the sixth place.
Mexican sensation Peso Pluma ranked seventh globally, with Kanye West, Ariana Grande, and Colombian artist Feid closing out the list in the bottom three positions.
The second most streamed album was Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT.
In third place was “Short n’ Sweet” by Sabrina Carpenter; next up was “MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO” by KAROL G; and rounding out the top three was “eternal sunshine” by Ariana Grande.
The seventh spot went to SOS by SZA. Fireworks & Rollerblades by Benson Boone came in at nine.
Starboy by The Weeknd took the last spot.
Carpenter’s catchy hit ‘Espresso’ was the most most-streamed song globally.
In second place came “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone, and Eilish’s “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” claimed the third position.
The list continued with ‘Gata Only’ by FloyyMenor, Cris Mj, ‘Lose Control’ by Teddy Swims, ‘End of Beginning’ by Djo, ‘Too Sweet’ by Hozier, and ‘One Of The Girls (with JENNIE, Lily Rose Depp)’ by The Weeknd.
Swift’s song ‘Cruel Summer’ took the ninth spot.
Last in the list was ‘Die With A Smile’ by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga.
Most Viral Song Globally went to ‘Die With A Smile’ by Mars and Lady Gaga.
Also on the list was Lamar’s Drake diss, ‘Not Like Us’, which took the 10th spot.
In the U.S.’s Most-Streamed Artists chart, Swift clinched the top spot. Trailing closely behind was Drake, along with popular country artists Zach Bryan and Morgan Wallen, Kanye West, Future, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, and Metro Boomin.
Here are the top-streamed songs in the U.S.: “Espresso” by The Carpenters, “Not Like Us” by Kendrick, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, “I Had Some Help” featuring Morgan Wallen by Post Malone, “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” by Tommy Richman, “Good Luck, Babe!” by Roan, “Beautiful Things” by Boone, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish, “I Remember Everything” featuring Kacey Musgraves by Zach Bryan, and “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve made it to the top of the Most-Streamed Albums in the U.S. chart with my album, ‘THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY.’ It’s an incredible feeling to see my work resonating so strongly with listeners across the nation.
Country star Wallen came at second place with ‘One Thing At A Time.’
He was followed by Carpenter’s ‘Short n’ Sweet’, and Kahan’s ‘Stick Season’.
Roan finished in fifth position with ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’, and Eilish’s ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’ ended up in sixth place.
SZA’s ‘SOS’ took the seventh spot,
In the rankings, ‘The Double Album’ by Wallen placed eighth, with ‘Zach Bryan’ by Zach Bryan taking ninth spot, and Taylor Swift’s ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ coming in tenth.
