Sports fans are in for a treat as Disney+ now has a score of ESPN content

As a longtime sports enthusiast and Disney+ subscriber, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the integration of ESPN content into my streaming service! For years, I’ve been bouncing between different platforms just to catch my favorite games or shows, but now it seems like all my dreams have come true.

Disney Plus users received an exciting bonus, as ESPN content has been integrated onto the platform, catering to sports enthusiasts!

It’s no secret everyone wants in on the streaming service game, even when there are more around. That includes various sports packages with ESPN naturally one of the biggest. The iconic sports network remains the go-to for any sports fan with various offshoot channels.

2018 saw the debut of ESPN+’s primary streaming platform, which served as the main hub for the channel’s content. It encompassed live sports broadcasts across multiple genres, standard ESPN programming, an extensive collection of documentaries, and special features. This service could be purchased either independently or combined with Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions.

Over the past year, Disney+ and Hulu were combined into one central platform, and it’s not shocking that ESPN will soon follow suit. As of December 4th, Disney+ users will gain access to an exclusive ESPN hub, offering everything from live sports broadcasts to additional programming.

Jimmy Pitaro, ESPN’s chairman, expressed that one of their key goals is broadening their audience reach. He’s particularly excited about the prospect of engaging casual fans and a vast female demographic currently on Disney+. In his words to Variety, he explained, “We recognize a chance to bolster the distinctiveness and stickiness of the Disney+ platform, as well as widen our own audience at ESPN.

As a passionate fan, I’m here to share some exciting news! While this isn’t the entire ESPN+ experience you might be used to, it’s designed to spark your interest if you’re a Disney+ subscriber. This sneak peek could make you more inclined to add ESPN+ to your Disney+ bundle, opening up a world of sports content for you!

One aspect I’m particularly thrilled about with this release is that we’re now making the ESPN and Hulu logos visible to all subscribers, Alisa Bowen, Disney+’s President, mentioned in a statement. This means that our individual Disney+ subscribers will effortlessly discover all the content from these two exceptional brands within their reach, and they can choose to upgrade their subscription for an enhanced bundle experience.

What’s available on ESPN on Disney+?

The new offersing aren’t as deep as regular ESPN+. But they do include live coverage of 30,000 live sports events, 6,000 hours of original ESPN content and over 100 hours of studio shows. That means catching up on live broadcasts of various NHL, NCAA football and basketball and other sports. There’s also the daily ESPN programs such as First Take, Pardon the Interruption and more. Plus, there’s some fantastic documentaries from ESPN’s acclaimed 30 For 30 series and other specials. 

Disney has some exciting plans too, including an entertaining “alternative cast” for “Monday Night Football,” featuring Simpsons characters on December 9th. Additionally, Daisy Duck and Mickey Mouse will participate in a unique animated version of the NBA game between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs on Christmas Day.

If you’re an ESPN+ user, you can now easily access it through Disney+ instead of using a separate app, similar to how Hulu subscribers enjoy their service. This strategic move by Disney highlights that ESPN+ offers more than just live sports games, and may encourage users to explore the full content available on ESPN+. Furthermore, incorporating sports into Disney+ is expected to boost viewership numbers, and the existing ESPN content on Disney+ is indeed excellent as well.

2025 might see Disney+ expanding its content with sports, making it an essential choice for streaming.
