The fifth film collaboration between Spike Lee and Denzel Washington, titled “Da 5 Bloods,” has been given a significant release update prior to its debut at the Cannes Film Festival. Meanwhile, audiences are given their first glimpse at A24’s upcoming neo-noir thriller, which is a modern adaptation of a well-known Japanese movie, as it approaches its premiere.
On Aug 22, select cinemas will screen the premiere of “Highest 2 Lowest,” a film distributed by A24. After a two-week run in theaters, the movie will make its streaming debut on Apple TV+ starting Sept 5. In addition to revealing the release date, A24 also shared the first teaser trailer for “Highest 2 Lowest.” The trailer showcases the main character, played by Washington, who is a music mogul, warning that hardships will arise from success, wealth, and fame, and that chaos will follow. This sneak peek suggests that the film will be filled with legal troubles, intense action scenes, and the vices associated with stardom.
The Highest and The Lowest is another way to say High and Low, which received a Golden Globe nomination and is regarded as a significant movie in the police procedural genre. This film, set in contemporary New York City, follows Washington’s character, a music executive known for having “the best ears in the business.” In this thrilling storyline, he becomes the target of a ransom plot and faces a “life-or-death moral dilemma.
Approximately months after Lee first unveiled it, Washington takes the lead in an ensemble that includes Jeffrey Wright from Batman, Ilfenesh Hadera known for Werewolves, Dean Winters of John Wick, and John Douglas Thompson, a two-time Tony Award nominee who previously worked with Washington on Broadway. Additionally, Highest 2 Lowest boasts award-winning rappers Rakim “ASAP Rocky” Mayers and Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston.
Prior to its premiere, the movie (title withheld), is set to welcome Washington’s presence. This film marks a 35-year partnership between Washington and Lee, dating back to their work on the musical comedy-drama “Mo’ Better Blues.” They also teamed up for the critically acclaimed film that earned Washington an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. The pair’s collaboration extends to the sports drama “He Got Game” and the bank heist thriller (title withheld).
Highest 2 Lowest Has Earned Praise
Lee has already garnered positive feedback for the movie “Highest 2 Lowest“. Not long ago, it was disclosed that a fellow Academy Award-winning director enjoyed an early version of the film. “Highest 2 Lowest” marks Lee’s first full-length production since the Netflix war drama, “Da 5 Bloods“, which earned an Oscar nomination in 2020.
Highest 2 Lowest opens in theaters across North America on Aug. 22.
