Spielberg Devastated By Loss Of E.T. Collaborator
Marvin Levy, a longtime advisor and publicist to Steven Spielberg, has died at the age of 96.
On April 7, the publicist, known for his work on various iconic movie marketing campaigns, sadly passed away in Los Angeles.
After Marvin’s unfortunate demise, Steven expressed his sentiments by stating that it was a tremendous loss not only for him personally but also for the entire industry. While there are numerous gifted public relations executives, Marvin stood out as exceptional and unique in his talent.
He had been a faithful and remarkable collaborator for more than half a century, admired and valued by everyone fortunate enough to benefit from his guidance.
Steven mentioned that he’s collaborated with Marvin since the very beginning of his professional journey, starting from the launch of his short film Amblin back in 1968.
He excelled in dealing with the press; there was nobody better than him. To the media and the public at large, Marvin served as the embodiment of Amblin.
Marvin stood out when it came to managing the press. He was the representative of Amblin to both the media and the world of exhibitions.

In our line of work, we found ourselves at opposite stages of movie production. Each time I completed my part in a film project, it was just the beginning for Marvin.
Marvin was brought to life through numerous movies, television shows, Amblin events, award campaigns, and PR strategies we orchestrated.
‘He had a deep passion for his job and always showed great excitement towards our company. His creativity, innovation, and wisdom were highly valued, and he earned respect due to his integrity and honesty.’
He had a keen enthusiasm for discovering innovative methods to showcase movies to viewers. Consequently, he became the pioneer and sole recipient of an Academy Award in the realm of publicity.
In addition to his work with Steven, Marvin helped to promote well known films including
1. Return to Tomorrow, Dilemma of Sophie, Cab Driver, Men from Beyond, Who Deceived Roger Rabbit, Gigi, Chariot of Fire, Contest of the Kramers, Meteor Strike, Ogre’s Tale, and Gladiatorial Combat

Originating from New York, Marvin kick-started his professional journey in advertising. Over time, he climbed the ranks and ended up in a senior position within the marketing team at Columbia Pictures.

Throughout his career, he developed such a strong rapport with Steven Spielberg that the director frequently sought his counsel.
When Steven founded DreamWorks in 1994, Marvin moved there.
2018 found me, at the ripe age of 90, becoming the first ever to receive an Honorary Academy Award. This esteemed honor was bestowed upon me for a lifetime of exceptional publicity work that has successfully introduced films to the thoughts, feelings, and very core of audiences worldwide.
