Daniel Kaluuya talks about Spider-Punk animated movie

Daniel Kaluuya revealed to Deadline that he’s nearly finished writing the first draft of an animated Spider-Punk movie. He’s collaborating with Ajon Singh on the project, which is being developed by Sony and builds upon his role as Spider-Punk (Hobie Brown) in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. When asked if other Spider-Verse characters would appear, Kaluuya said the details are still to be determined.

I was so thrilled to see how much everyone loved my character! It really gave the team the push to keep going, and I can confirm I’ll be back as Spider-Punk in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is coming out on June 18, 2027. It’s incredibly exciting to be involved in creating something like this. I also have to say, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are amazing storytellers and have been so supportive of the whole project.

Kaluuya explained that Jordan Peele reminded him during the film’s creation that movies aren’t focused on individuals, but on the connections between them. He also noted that the film aims to capture the pure enjoyment of filmmaking and storytelling, something he believes is difficult to achieve. Ultimately, he feels the passion the filmmakers have for their work is what truly resonates with audiences.

Regarding the merging of companies in the entertainment industry, Kaluuya discussed the Warner Bros. Discovery–Netflix agreement, explaining it’s a result of how quickly technology is advancing. He pointed out that tech companies now largely control the underlying systems that deliver content.

Kaluuya explained that he won’t let shifts in the film industry control his artistic choices. He said he doesn’t want to be influenced by current anxieties, emphasizing his passion for connecting with audiences and creating shared experiences. ‘I love cinema, theaters, and making films, and I’ll always prioritize those things,’ he stated.
