‘Spider-Noir’ Promo Reveals Sandman, Electro & More Marvel Villains

Promotion for the series Spider-Noir is increasing, and we’re getting our first glimpses of updated versions of familiar Spider-Man villains like Sandman and Electro. Before CCXP, a convention taking place in Mexico City from April 24th to 26th, MGM+ and Prime Video shared five new posters for Spider-Noir. One poster showcases Ben Reilly, played by Nicolas Cage, while another features Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson) and Cat Hardy (Li Jun Li), who plays Black Cat in the series.

Besides the hero poster, three more posters showcase villains from the series. Jack Huston, known for his role in Boardwalk Empire, appears as Flint Marko, also known as Sandman. Joe Massingill plays a new take on the Spider-Man villain Electro. The final poster features actor Abraham Popoola, who plays a World War I veteran seeking success, according to a Deadline report from 2024. The character’s powers aren’t shown on the poster. You can see all five posters in the video linked below.

Sandman and Electro are two well-known enemies of Spider-Man. Both characters were created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Sandman first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #4 in September 1964, while Electro debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #9 in February 1964. In the movies, Thomas Hayden Church portrayed Sandman in Spider-Man 3, and Jamie Foxx played Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Both actors returned to their roles in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, where their villains were brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe from different universes.

Honestly, I’m really curious about who Poppola is playing in Spider-Noir. With all the gangster vibes in that universe, my first thought was Hammerhead – he’s a classic villain who first appeared way back in The Amazing Spider-Man #113. The scars on the character definitely seem to fit that idea. But, thinking about it, the description also kind of suggests they might be going with a Spider-Noir take on Rhino. He debuted even earlier, in The Amazing Spider-Man #41, and is usually a muscle-for-hire type who gets super strength and tough skin through an experiment. We’ve seen him played by Paul Giamatti in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and more recently by Alessandro Nivola in Kraven the Hunter, so it’ll be interesting to see what they do with him here.
