Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Director Told The Cutest Story About How He’s ‘Brainwashing’ His Young Son Into Becoming A Marvel Fan

Following the success of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, Destin Daniel Cretton is now taking on another Marvel film, titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”. After revealing the title of the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man movie, the director shared a compelling story about it during Sony’s 2025 CinemaCon panel, which is worth mentioning to even the most casual Spider-Man fans.

I really enjoy it when popular culture blends with well-known franchises, and lately, director Cretton has revealed that his son’s first word wasn’t typical. With all the Peter Parker items around due to preparation for the upcoming Marvel movie, his child seems to be drawn to the materials just as a moth is attracted to a flame.

It’s somewhat surprising, but my 1-year old son’s first word turned out to be “Spider-Man”. I guess it wasn’t entirely my fault; he simply spotted an issue of Spider-Man Most Wanted on my nightstand. He would constantly point at it, and in response, I said “Spider-man.” Now, whenever he sees a small sticker with that face, he calls it out the same way. To me, it seems like unintentional early exposure to comics!

The director might be uncertain about this turn of events, but I personally find it quite charming. I can understand that it could stir up complicated feelings at home since I’m unsure how Cretton and his partner feel about their child preferring “Spider-Man” over mom or dad. However, given that I’m immersed in the world of Marvel right now, it seems fitting that the character is also a significant part of his child’s developmental stages.

Destin Daniel Cretton further shared that he and his creative team have truly enjoyed the process of preparing for this significant project in Tom Holland’s busy summer schedule of 2026 films. He mentioned they’ve been enthusiastically discussing details like the suit, and I can hardly wait to witness it instead of just hearing about it.

Expressing it in another way: It’s not just an honor to be here on this stage; it’s more like we’re all geeking out daily about the design of the suit, the technique for swinging, planning an extraordinary event, crafting a moving story, and offering a unique experience that is truly unprecedented.

Regrettably, time can be both beneficial and challenging in this situation. On one hand, I’m excited about the future of the Spider-Man universe, and I always get a thrill from the excitement leading up to a new movie release. However, it looks like we have quite some time ahead before this next film arrives in cinemas. In fact, production is set to start in summer 2023, with a planned release date of July 2026. At the moment, we’ve only heard whispers about potential cast members, but no definitive news beyond the title of the movie.

As a film enthusiast, it seems Destin Daniel Cretton might want to stay on his toes, given the tale we’re witnessing. You never know when young eyes are watching, and truth be told, wisdom often comes from the most unexpected places – the little ones among us!
