2026 is becoming the biggest year ever for a very famous Spider-Man villain.
This summer will see the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the Spider-Noir TV series will introduce a character to live-action first. Artist Jorge Molina, who designed the posters for the Prime Video show, has confirmed that the mysterious purple figure is the Marvel villain Tombstone. You can find the full conversation below.
He shared that he designed the Spider-Noir badges for Prime Video Mexico and CCXP MX, inspired by the live-action show. He’s excited to be a guest artist at this year’s event and see the badges on display from April 24th to 26th!
Many fans think the character featured in the ‘Tombstone’ poster is based on actor Abraham Popoola, who appeared in the cast of Spider-Noir without a clearly defined role. However, neither Prime Video nor Sony has officially confirmed this connection.
Interestingly, the character of Tombstone appears in this series two months before his official introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios has confirmed Tombstone will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, portrayed by Marvin Jones III, who previously voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Lonnie Lincoln, known as Tombstone, is a significant character in the animated Disney+ series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Actor Eugene Byrd provides his voice. The second season is expected to debut on Disney+ in 2026.
Although Spider-Noir is joining the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, his story will be set in the 1930s. This means both storylines will feature different versions of the villain Tombstone around the same time.
Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man character won’t be the familiar Peter Parker; instead, he’ll play Ben Reilly, offering fans the chance to see a showdown between two Spider-Men and the villain Tombstone. It’s currently unknown if Tombstone, or either Spider-Man, will return after their upcoming projects – whether that’s Spider-Man 5 or the second season of Spider-Noir.
Spider-Noir will premiere on MGM+ in the U.S. on May 25th. Viewers everywhere else can start watching it on Prime Video starting May 27th. Plus, the new movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, arrives in cinemas on July 31st.
