Brand New Day” has hinted that the character Venom could be featured in the next standalone Spider-Man film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). So far, Venom’s role in the MCU has been minimal, with just a brief post-credits scene in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” where Tom Hardy’s character Eddie Brock was sent back to his own world, leaving behind a trace of the Venom symbiote. Now, five years later, this symbiote might have its moment to take center stage in the MCU.

Michael Mando recently posted on social media about rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mac Gargan/Scorpion in the upcoming Spider-Man film titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Mando made his MCU debut in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” playing a minor character, Mac Gargan. Fans had long hoped to see him take on the villainous role of Scorpion within the MCU, and it now seems that this may soon become a reality. What’s more intriguing is the suggestion that there could be an additional twist in his return to the series.

As a die-hard film buff, I’ve just caught wind of an intriguing peek Mando shared on his Instagram Story! It’s a comic book snapshot from the 2019 series, Absolute Carnage: Miles Morales, featuring none other than the green-garbed Scorpion. Interestingly enough, Venom is right there, giving us a tongue-out, ominous stare. Can’t wait to see how this epic confrontation between Miles Morales and the Scorpion unfolds, with Leinil Francis Yu at the helm!

In the particular comic you mentioned, only Mac Gargan (Scorpion) and Venom are featured. However, it’s important to note that in Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #10 from 2005, the Venom symbiote actually infected the character known as Scorpion.

In this story from 2005, the character takes part in Norman Osborn’s Thunderbolts team and later impersonates Spider-Man wearing a black suit in a “Dark Avengers” comic. Since Eddie Brock is usually linked to Venom in the comics, this tale has Gargan adopting the symbiote and its abilities instead.

So far, Mando has made just one appearance in the MCU, culminating in Mac Gargan being locked up together with Adrian Toomes (portrayed by Michael Keaton as Vulture). They both showed curiosity about revealing Spider-Man’s real identity.

In addition to the world discovering and then forgetting that Peter Parker is Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third film ended with a hint about Venom, as a tiny piece of the symbiote was left behind in a Mexican bar.

Spider-Man: A Fresh Start”

In this upcoming movie, Tom Holland reprises his role as our friendly neighborhood Spiderman for the fourth time, making it the second theatrical release during Phase 6. Alongside him are stars like Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, and others. This new adventure finds our hero navigating a world oblivious to Peter Parker’s identity while confronting enemies more formidable than any he has encountered before. Currently in production, “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start” is set to hit the big screen on July 31, 2026.

Could Mac Gargan (Scorpion) Become The MCU’s First Official Venom?

In this image, Mando is hinting at the possibility of Scorpion and Venom teaming up on the silver screen, which has sparked curiosity among fans. It’s essential to note that Marvel films are typically influenced by various comics rather than directly copied from them (though there have been instances where scenes have been replicated almost exactly as well). However, with a few minor tweaks, this concept could be reinvented in a fresh manner while still honoring its comic roots.

In another scenario, instead of Eddie Brock, Scorpion could transform into Venom as a means to link seamlessly with the initial Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man trilogy. This transformation would offer a fresh perspective on the iconic Spider-Man versus Venom battle following the rewrite in “Venom: The Last Dance,” which established Venom’s journey to Earth-616 within Sony’s Spider-Man universe, without delving into the consequences of Venom remaining on Earth-616.

Currently, the main concern is figuring out how this movie will manage to reintroduce Scorpion, as he has been absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for most of the last decade. Interestingly, Mando’s version of Mac Gargan, who was last seen with Michael Keaton’s Vulture in jail during Spider-Man: Homecoming, has not been mentioned or appeared since then.

In the initial phases of filming, bringing Scorpion into the plot again, especially at his peak, will offer a refreshing change for the series. As Spider-Man returns to his street-level origins, introducing Venom will add an extra layer of excitement to the new challenges Holland and his team will encounter.
