Spider-Man: Brand New Day Seems Like The Perfect IMAX Movie, Except It Might Not Be

After the cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have been eagerly awaiting Brand New Day, the next installment scheduled for 2026. This movie will show Peter Parker starting over after the events of the previous films, as everyone has forgotten who he is. With the addition of Hulk and Punisher, and promises of exciting action, it seemed like a perfect fit for the immersive IMAX experience—but there’s a chance it might not be released in that format.

Every Spider-Man movie except the very first one has been shown in IMAX. However, the recent investor presentation from IMAX doesn’t list Spider-Man: Brand New Day among their upcoming releases. While I anticipated seeing several 2026 films on the schedule – like Avatar: Fire and Ash, Super Mario Galaxy, and the live-action Moana – those are all major, visually impressive movies that would be perfect for IMAX.

Spider-Man movies have consistently looked fantastic on big screens. The exciting action scenes and seeing Spider-Man swing through the city are always a treat. A possible IMAX release plan, as reported by @CultureCrave, might explain why the new Marvel movie isn’t currently scheduled for release until 2026.

Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, is expected to play in IMAX theaters for four weeks, from July 17th to August 14th, before Flowervale Street is released. This extended run is fitting, as Nolan filmed the entire movie using IMAX cameras, making it a priority for the theater company and a significant project in IMAX history.

It’s disappointing that Spider-Man: Brand New Day might not be shown in IMAX. However, @TheEricGoldman shared a funny and insightful observation: two actors from the latest Spider-Man film are still appearing in IMAX movies.

Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal pushing aside Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal

This is fantastic news! That fun fact is definitely worth sharing. While Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal might not be reprising their Marvel roles as Spider-Man and the Punisher in IMAX theaters anytime soon, they’re joining the cast of the epic film, The Odyssey. Holland will play Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, and though Bernthal’s role is still a secret, both actors will get their big-screen moment playing characters from Greek mythology. Even if they miss the 2026 release window for Marvel projects, they’ll still be shining on the big screen!

Despite initial hopes, Spider-Man: Brand New Day won’t be released in IMAX. However, the movie is still expected to look fantastic on regular movie screens, as Marvel Studios is known for its impressive visual effects. Don’t miss Brand New Day when it arrives in theaters on July 31st!
