Fans are really excited about the new *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* movie, and for good reason! It picks up the story after the popular *Home* trilogy from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plus, it’s bringing in characters fans have been hoping to see in a Spider-Man film for years, like Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk. We’ll even finally see Michael Mando play Scorpion! But the latest casting news might be the most interesting part of all.
Deadline reports that Marvel’s *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* has added a new villain to its cast. Interestingly, this marks the live-action debut of the character, and the casting choice has a unique tie to the *Spider-Verse* movies. Actor Marvin Jones III, also known as rapper Krondon, will play Lonnie Lincoln, the villain Tombstone – a role he previously voiced in *Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse*.
There’s some good news and bad news for the upcoming *Spider-Man* movie. Unfortunately, filming has been temporarily stopped after star Tom Holland suffered a concussion during production. However, there’s no indication that this pause will change the movie’s current release date, which is planned for sometime next year.
It’s currently unknown how Tombstone will fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe or how significant his part will be. First appearing in Marvel Comics in 1988, created by Gerry Conway and Alex Saviuk, Tombstone is a ruthless crime boss recognizable by his pale skin and distinctive flat-top haircut. He’s depicted as having increased strength and durability, and he sharpens his teeth into fangs to appear even more intimidating. Marvin Jones III, who previously voiced the character in *Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse*, will reprise his role in both *Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse* and *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*.
The big question now is whether the live-action and animated Spider-Man universes will officially connect. There have been hints of this before: Donald Glover appeared as Aaron Davis in *Spider-Man: Homecoming* and later as The Prowler in *Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse*.
Besides the previously announced cast, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, and Liza Colón-Zayas will also star in *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*. Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings* for Marvel Studios, is directing the film. Production is set to resume before the end of this month, and Sony plans to release it on July 31, 2026. We’ll continue to share updates here on TopMob about this highly anticipated blockbuster.
