Spider-Man 4’s Underrated Suit Decision

In 2016, Marvel Studios acquired the rights to use Spider-Man in their productions, introducing Tom Holland as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. This marked the beginning of a trilogy for Holland, who also appeared in two Avengers movies and the Captain America sequel. The latest appearance of Holland’s Spider-Man was in Spider-Man: No Way Home, one of the most ambitious and successful solo films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date.

Following the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” where Peter utilizes Doctor Strange to restore his hidden identity, it appears the next Spider-Man movie will return the character to his original origins. Destin Daniel Cretton, director of “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” is set to direct the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Spider-Man film. Sony recently announced that the new title for this movie will be “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which shares a name with the 2008 comic book storyline. Aside from the title, specific details about the film are scarce; however, it’s known that Liza Colón-Zayas from “The Bear” will join the cast in unspecified roles. Filming is scheduled to start later this year for a summer 2026 release, and there remain many unanswered questions about the sequel, one of which is particularly intriguing to fans everywhere.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Spider-Man, portrayed by Holland, made a short debut in Captain America: Civil War. During this film, Tony Stark outfitted him with an advanced suit brimming with technology, superior to any live-action Spidey suit seen before. This new suit beautifully blended modern innovation with the classic Spider-Man aesthetic, influenced by Steve Ditko’s artwork. Notably, the suit showcased mechanical eyes in Civil War, mirroring the facial expressions of the comic book character for the first time in live-action. This Stark-designed suit continued in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but when Tony decided to reclaim it, Peter was forced to rely on his DIY version once more.

As a diehard fan, I’ve observed the evolution of Spider-Man’s suits throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In the climactic showdown against Vulture in my homemade suit, I fought valiantly before regaining the Stark suit. Then, in Avengers: Infinity War, I sported the Iron Spider suit that had been teased at the end of Homecoming, but with a color scheme more reminiscent of the original Spidey.

In Avengers: Endgame, I reappeared wearing the same Iron Spider suit, which remained my choice in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the sequel, I donned a sleek all-black suit and created a new design inspired by my Homecoming suit, but with black replacing blue as the secondary color.

In No Way Home, Spidey’s suits underwent multiple changes. Initially, I was seen in the iconic red and black suit, later transitioning to a new Iron Spider suit adorned with a golden spider emblem. Just like many other characters within the MCU, Spider-Man has consistently reinvented his appearance across each film. Some of my suits have showcased daring designs, while others have retained the classic look with a contemporary twist.

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Ending Introduced His Best MCU Suit Yet

  • Spider-Man: No Way Home featured three different suits for Peter, and the film’s last one is arguably the best he’s worn to date.
  • The new suit featured at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home is the most traditional-looking of all his MCU appearances.

No Way Home”, Peter chose to put others first and employed a spell by Doctor Strange to restore his hidden identity. Consequently, he finds himself devoid of resources from Stark Industries, as depicted in the film’s conclusion where he resides in a modest studio apartment independently. As Peter embarks on the next chapter of his life, the movie briefly showcases a freshly crafted new suit. The suits worn by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man remained faithful to the character’s original design, and after meeting them, Holland’s Spider-Man adapted a similar style for his own suit.

In the final scene of “No Way Home,” the new Spider-Man suit showcases one of the most authentic screen adaptations yet, featuring a vibrant blue design and minimal lines. Critics have long argued that the MCU’s Spidey costume was too advanced in appearance. However, with Stark’s aid, the MCU’s Peter gained abilities not typically within his reach. With Holland’s Spider-Man now back to square one in the MCU, fans were thrilled to witness him don a more earthbound suit. Despite this, his classic red and blue attire remains his most recognizable and enduring image. The return to Spidey’s original look in the MCU has sparked hopes that the “Brand New Day” storyline might follow suit as well.

Will Spider-Man: Brand New Day Feature a New Suit?

  • Every time Spider-Man has received a new suit in the MCU, it has been explained within the story.
  • Based on his past appearances, it would be a major surprise if Marvel Studios and Sony started Brand New Day with Spider-Man wearing a brand-new suit.

In the early stages of production for “Brand New Day,” many aspects of the film remain unknown, particularly the identities of its villains. Since Spider-Man in the MCU has consistently had new suits accompanied by explanations for their appearance, it’s intriguing to speculate whether “Brand New Day” will introduce another fresh suit. Given that Marvel Studios and Sony have been consistent in providing reasons behind Spider-Man’s new looks, a sudden change might seem out of character for the franchise.

The suit Spider-Man wore at the end of “No Way Home” has become one of the most popular versions of the MCU’s Spidey costume. Given its limited screen time, fans are eager to see more of it in “Brand New Day.” It makes narrative sense for Tom Holland’s character to don a new, homemade suit, and it’s likely that Marvel Studios will consider this angle carefully.

Given that Spider-Man has frequently updated his suits in the MCU, it’s quite possible that he’ll sport a fresh new costume in the upcoming film. Tom Holland has already donned some daring outfits, both original and comic-inspired. So, it wouldn’t be unexpected if the “Brand New Day” storyline includes the symbiote tale and introduces this iconic suit. However, Marvel Studios might delay the symbiote suit until “Avengers: Secret Wars.

In contrast to the events depicted within the film, Spider-Man’s final scene in the Marvel Cinematic Universe concluded on an extremely positive note. Essentially, Spider-Man: No Way Home has paved the way for a fresh start or reboot for the character. A new era, let’s call it A New Day, provides an opportunity to portray Spider-Man in a more traditional manner, given that viewers are now accustomed to seeing him coexist with other heroes within a shared universe.

Apart from wanting to observe Spider-Man functioning on a street level mirrored in his appearance, fans are also eager for this portrayal to be reflected in his costume. The suit shown at the end of “No Way Home” would align perfectly with this desire. However, it’s important to note that while characters in the MCU often change their looks, not every character is Spider-Man, whose superhero suit is one of the most iconic. Since the homemade suit was only briefly seen in “No Way Home”, it should be prominently featured in “Brand New Day” to set a new tone for the character, as the title suggests, and to mark a fresh era. Failing to do so in the sequel would be a missed opportunity.
