Spider-Man 4’s Rumored Plot Details Reveal Incredible Hulk & Punisher’s Roles

The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie is expected to feature several other heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, continuing a recent trend. While details are still secret, a new report suggests that Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will appear in the film, alongside another well-known Marvel character.

Hulk and Punisher’s roles in Spider-Man: Brand New Day are linked to major X-Men hero

Both Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, and Bruce Banner, who transforms into The Hulk, have been set to appear in the next Spider-Man movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a year. Jon Bernthal’s return as Punisher was revealed in June 2025, and Mark Ruffalo’s participation as Hulk was confirmed a few months after, in August.

A reliable source on X, @Majestic_ucm, claims the Punisher will be tasked with protecting Jean Grey – potentially played by Sadie Sink – from Damage Control in the upcoming Brand New Day storyline. Meanwhile, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will turn to Bruce Banner for assistance after struggling with his powers, experiencing issues similar to those Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man faced, where emotional stress caused malfunctions.

The Punisher and Hulk are set to clash in an upcoming storyline where Jean Grey’s abilities cause Bruce Banner to transform into the Grey Hulk. This confirms earlier reports that the Punisher and Spider-Man will join forces to battle this version of the Hulk. Bruce Banner will play a supporting villain role, while Tombstone and Scorpion will be the primary antagonists.

Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) – where everyone forgot Peter Parker’s identity – Spider-Man: Brand New Day allows the movie version of Spider-Man to more closely resemble the character from the comics. Filming for the sequel took place from August to December 2025 and was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.

In addition to the previously announced cast, Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion in Brand New Day. Joining them are new cast members Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman, while Marvin Jones III will play Tombstone.

The new Spider-Man movie, “Brand New Day,” is planned for release on July 31, 2026, as part of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
