There’s been a lot of talk lately about who could be the main villain in the upcoming movie called “Spider-Man 4”. Some recent rumors point towards an unanticipated character potentially stealing the spotlight. Yet, there’s still a lot of doubt surrounding this, as some believe that the mystery is being kept intentionally to keep fans on their toes.
Why Spider-Slayer could be the real villain of Spider-Man 4
It’s proposed that the upcoming Spider-Man 4 might feature Alistair Smythe, more famously recognized as Spider-Slayer, as the primary antagonist.
Although filming for the latest Spider-Man series titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is currently taking place in the U.K., Marvel and Sony have yet to reveal who Peter Parker’s main adversary will be. Despite Michael Mando reprising his role as Scorpion to tackle a cliffhanger from “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, he’s rumored not to be the film’s principal villain.
A skilled roboticist named Alistair Smythe developed the Spider-Slayers, mechanical beasts designed to track down and capture Spider-Man. His father, Spencer Smythe, initiated this project following a contract from J. Jonah Jameson, a character who could potentially reappear in the upcoming film.
Later on, Alistair embarked on a personal crusade against Spider-Man, initially collaborating with Kingpin but eventually working independently. In the comic book world, he underwent a transformation into a cyborg, boosting the powers of villains like Scorpion, Boomerang, and Vulture.
Design sketches and artwork leaks provide support for Smythe’s theory. Previous reports suggested a Samurai character could be connected to Wolverine’s Silver Samurai, but they share notable similarities with Spider-Slayer armor instead. Additionally, a red emblem observed during filming in Glasgow aligns with the horned insignia commonly found on Spider-Slayer helmets, stirring speculation that it pertains to Smythe’s inventions.
According to Daniel Richtman, the antagonist for Spider-Man 4 isn’t any of the villains we’ve previously heard about, and this points towards Alistair Smythe as a possible new choice. It also seems that characters like Boomerang, Ramrod, and Tombstone, who have been rumored to be included, could have ties to Smythe due to his history of modifying villains. Notably, Ramrod’s cybernetic background aligns with the established storyline for this character.
The job postings connect a “resourceful young character around his twenties” with an “adult figure aged between thirty and fifty,” who is ready to bend the rules to uphold order, to Alistair and Spencer Smythe. This suggests that the Spider-Slayer could be the true antagonist in Spider-Man 4, further emphasizing this character’s role.
