Spider-Man 4 Rumor Reveals Surprising MCU Return

A fresh rumor about Spider-Man 4 has emerged, hinting at the possible actress for the lead villain role in the eagerly awaited upcoming installment of the Tom Holland-led series. Filming for Spider-Man: A Fresh Start is happening now in Glasgow. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

The upcoming Spider-Man film, titled “Brand New Day,” is being helmed by director Destin Daniel Cretton, with a screenplay penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Tom Holland, known for his portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will once again step into the role. Alongside him, Emmy winner Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are anticipated to reprise their roles.

Joining them for the sequel are new cast members Sadie Sink from “Stranger Things” and Liza Colón-Zayas from “The Bear.” Additionally, Jon Bernthal, famous for his role as Frank Castle/Punisher in “Daredevil: Born Again,” is also part of the cast.

Rumors also suggest that Mark Ruffalo, who played Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Avengers series, might return for the fourth installment.

Who’s the potential villain joining Spider-Man 4?

During a recent episode of The Hot Mic podcast, it was disclosed by insider Jeff Sneider that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures could be inviting Emmy-nominated actress Carrie Coon to join the cast for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It’s been suggested that Coon may take on the role of another Marvel villain, following her previous portrayal of Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War.

Sneider stated that he’s not sure about the accuracy of this, as he hasn’t checked it out at all. He mentioned an actress, but didn’t confirm who it was. Previously, she has expressed interest in Marvel movies for financial reasons, and Sneider suggested that Carrie Coon might be the villain in a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, although this is unconfirmed.

It’s quite unexpected, given that The White Lotus actress has disclosed the reason behind her decision not to rejoin the Avengers: Endgame cast. She verified that the company wasn’t prepared to offer her a higher fee for her portrayal of Proxima Midnight, despite her extensive acting background.

In a past interview, Coon expressed that his time holds greater value elsewhere. Consequently, he decided to leave the company on good terms, recognizing that his personal responsibilities demand more of his time than what was being offered by the company. Essentially, this choice was primarily driven by business considerations.
