A second Avenger is rumored to be joining Tom Holland’s next outing as Spider-Man.
Which Avenger will reportedly appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
As a fervent fan, I’m thrilled to share the exciting news that, according to esteemed insider Daniel Richtman on social media platform X, the remarkable Florence Pugh is set to reprise her role as Yelena Belova in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Should this speculation prove accurate, Brand New Day will mark Pugh’s fifth foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Black Widow, Hawkeye (both 2021), Thunderbolts* (2025), and Marvel Zombies, the latter of which is slated to premiere on Disney+ in September. Moreover, she’s also scheduled to make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, hitting theaters a mere five months after Brand New Day in December 2026. Truly, it’s an exhilarating prospect!
In the realm of Marvel movies, I, Yelena Belova, stepped onto the scene for the first time in Black Widow, a film nestled between the happenings of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. This prequel unveiled a fascinating backstory – I was actually Natasha Romanoff’s adopted sister, both of us having been molded into Black Widow assassins within the confines of the Red Room. Post-Black Widow, my path led me to work as a contract killer for Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. However, that didn’t last long, as I later joined the Thunderbolts, a group that eventually evolved into the New Avengers.
With whispers about Pugh’s potential role, the lineup for Spider-Man: Brand New Day now includes seven Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans: Mark Ruffalo portraying Bruce Banner/Hulk, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, and Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Additional cast members include Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas; however, their roles are not yet disclosed. It is rumored that Sink’s character will be an ally to Peter, but not Spider-Man himself.
Destin Daniel Cretton is leading the production of the upcoming Spider-Man film titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which started filming on August 1 in Glasgow, Scotland. The script for this Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel was penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who have written all scripts for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films so far. The movie is set to premiere in theaters on July 31, 2026, during Phase 6 of the MCU.
