In the expanding lineup for the next Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man 4 movie, it has been reported that two significant roles are being added to the story, alongside Tom Holland’s portrayal of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Who is joining Spider-Man 4’s cast?
Based on a recent THR report, it’s been confirmed that Mark Ruffalo and Michael Mando are set to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man film titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Ruffalo will reprise his well-known MCU character, Bruce Banner/The Hulk, while Mando will return as Mac Gargan, more famously known as The Scorpion, a longstanding adversary of Spider-Man.
Mando made a brief appearance in the initial Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). In the film’s finale, Mando’s character, Gargan, was apprehended by Spider-Man. Later, during the post-credits scene, Gargan interacted with Adrian Toomes/Vulture (played by Michael Keaton), hinting that Toomes might have information about Spider-Man’s true identity.
In terms of Ruffalo’s character, it has been since the 2021 movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” that we last saw him, featuring a mid-credits scene alongside Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and Benedict Wong as Wong. They were discussing the rings discovered by Xu Shang-Chi (Simu Liu). Earlier to this, The Hulk made an appearance in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”.
Two well-known actors are now part of a cast that’s already bursting with stars, featuring fresh faces like Sadie Sink from Stranger Things and Liza Colón-Zayas from The Bear. Jon Bernthal is also set to make his first film appearance as Frank Castle/Punisher, who recently reprised his role as the anti-hero in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. This upcoming movie is being produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, and Avi Arad.
In this updated version, Destin Daniel Cretton is in charge of directing Spider-Man: A Fresh Start, with a screenplay penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Tom Holland will continue his portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming movie, while Emmy winner Zendaya and Jacob Batalo are anticipated to rejoin the cast for the sequel.
Spider-Man’s fourth installment is set to hit American theaters on July 31, 2026, preceding both “Avengers: Doomsday” (originally scheduled for December 18, 2026) and “Avengers: Secret Wars” (December 17, 2027). This new release date comes after the delay of “Avengers: Doomsday.
