Spider-Gwen Starts a New Adventure in Main Marvel Universe This August

The iconic character, Spider-Gwen, is embarking on a fresh new journey with her own series titled “All-New Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider“. This upcoming adventure will firmly establish the character within the central Marvel Universe and will branch off from the ongoing storyline.

Beginning in August, the brand-new comic book series titled “Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #1” will be penned by Stephanie Phillips and illustrated by Paolo Villanelli. This follows their ongoing series, “Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider,” which is set to wrap up in July. Previously, Spider-Gwen was displaced from her home dimension and found herself stranded in Earth-616, the primary universe for Marvel Comics. Since then, she’s embarked on thrilling escapades and even encountered the reality-bending Cosmic Cube. In the upcoming series, Spider-Gwen is set to make her permanent residence in the main Marvel Universe.

Spider-Gwen Will Now Call Earth-616 Home in Marvel’s New Series

Marvel recently revealed the primary cover artwork for All-New Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #1, created by David Marquez, along with a variant design by Nogi San. This announcement marked the launch of the new series at a specific event. A sneak peek into the comics suggests that Gwen Stacy’s life on Earth-616 won’t be a breeze: “Gwen Stacy hails from another world, but she’s determined to make Earth-616 her permanent home. She’ll embrace changes such as a new outfit, a new living situation, and even forming a band! However, Gwen must also deal with new dangers, starting with one that could potentially be self-inflicted! Join Ghost-Spider on her journey as she acclimates to Earth-616 and confronts the challenges ahead.

In Stephanie Phillips’ words to Collider, Gwen is embarking on a fresh beginning that signifies opportunity. She’s been burdened by her past, but now she finds herself at a point where she can construct something novel – new relationships, a renewed purpose, and perhaps even rediscovering aspects of herself that have been dormant for some time… or, perhaps, resurfacing an aspect of herself we haven’t seen in a while. This is similar to joining a band. (Note: Spoilers!)

Phillips hinted at the upcoming comics and the new series, emphasizing that it’s designed for Marvel fans across all age groups. He shared that the most enjoyable aspect has been delving into Gwen’s resilience – she’s humorous, imperfect, and unceasingly striving to carve her own narrative. Sharing this journey with readers of various ages is a remarkable honor for him.

In May 2024, the series “Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider,” created by Phillips and Villanelli, began its run. This series follows Gwen as she transitions into the Ghost-Spider after moving permanently from her previous universe (Earth-65) to Earth-616. This move raises numerous questions, such as why she left her original world, while she struggles to adapt to her new life and conceal her identity from established Spider-Man characters like Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Silk.

You can now pre-order issue number 1 of the freshly minted “Spider-Gwen: The Phantom Spider” at your local comic book stores, as it’s set to hit shelves in August.
