In the alternate reality of Earth-65, it was actually Gwen Stacy who gained spider-like abilities as a teenager instead of Peter Parker. This version of Gwen, known as Spider-Gwen, has experienced numerous changes over time. Her latest solo series, titled All-New Spider Gwen: The Ghost-Spider, brings even more changes that interestingly lead the character back to a form similar to her depiction in the Spider-Verse films.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I’d put it this way: Stepping into a fresh cinematic universe, penned by Stephanie Phillips and brilliantly illustrated by Paolo Villanelli, finds Gwen Stacy embarking on an exciting new chapter on Earth. With the transformative power of a Cosmic Cube at her disposal, she’s reshaping her world for the better, not just regaining her original powers but also seamlessly weaving herself and her father into the heart of the Marvel Universe on Earth-616. Draped in a sleek black mask costume, Gwen has formed an intriguing alliance with the enigmatic anti-hero, Black Tarantula. It’s a thrilling new adventure that promises to leave fans spellbound!

All-New Spider Gwen sets new status quo more in-line with Spider-Verse movies
Describing the Spider-Gwen comics over the past few years as complex might be an understatement. Beyond her appearances in different comic series that launched her into the Spider-Verse, she’s also had a tenure with the Time Variance Authority (TVA). Her storyline includes losing her powers and relying on a symbiote for a period, which is quite a lot considering she’s primarily recognized from movies and the animated series Spidey and His Amazing Friends.
In the latest installment, Gwen Stacy appears to return to her roots, even though she hails from Earth-616. She’s once again demonstrating her spider-like abilities as if nothing has changed. It will be intriguing to observe how alterations in the universe influence her connections with Miles Morales and Peter Parker.
All-New Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on August 20, 2025.
