Spencer Matthews claims Made In Chelsea stars were paid bonuses for ‘creating extra drama’ and admits he was ‘drunk’ during most of his on-screen clashes
As a seasoned adventurer myself, I can certainly empathize with Spencer’s current ordeal. Running 30 marathons in 30 days across the desert in summer is no walk in the park, even for someone as resilient as Spencer. His determination and spirit are truly commendable, and I must say, his comment about the flies being a worse enemy than hyenas had me chuckling.
Spencer Matthews has stated that the cast members of Made In Chelsea are rewarded with bonuses for introducing additional excitement or conflicts into the series.
In 2011, the character, aged 36, gained significant attention due to his portrayal as a villain on the E4 series, particularly remembered for his heated argument with former partner Louise Thompson. During this dispute, he notoriously claimed that she allowed him to be unfaithful to her.
Currently, it’s reported that Spencer alleges a significant portion of the dramatic scenes portrayed on Made In Chelsea were instigated by producers giving incentives like monetary rewards to the cast members.
He quit the show in 2015, and is now married to Vogue Williams, with three children.
Speaking on the High Performance podcast, he said: ‘Even if you’re an undramatic person or someone that hates confrontation, you will be thrust into confrontation and drama.
‘And actually, you know, we were praised. for creating drama.
In specific instances (and I might face repercussions for admitting this), we were rewarded with bonuses when we generated a certain amount of drama. However, it often feels as though we’re being swept away by the tide of this drama, believing we are simply performing well.
TopMob has contacted representatives for Made In Chelsea for comment.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d say I initially found the show quite authentic when it debuted in 2011. However, over time, it became increasingly challenging for the cast to discern reality from dramatization, as the producers began to amplify ordinary situations on-screen.
The actress, now abstaining from alcohol, mentioned that she was intoxicated during numerous arguments depicted on the show for viewers.
He mentioned that during filming, an actor might act upset about something, but once the cameras stopped rolling, they would appear perfectly fine again.
‘And it was like ‘well are you p**sed off or are you not p**sed off, I don’t really get it?’
I’m not implying that everything shown in Made in Chelsea is entirely authentic, but it’s undeniably embellished and dramatized for effect.
If I’m not invited to Binky’s boat party, it doesn’t matter much to me personally, but since it could potentially impact the scene, it might be necessary for you to take note of it.
Spencer mentioned: “Back then, I wasn’t concerned about others’ opinions of me at all. To be frank, I believe it’s not a good state to be in.”
Over a prolonged period while watching Made in Chelsea, I was intoxicated and, at times, behaved recklessly. Looking back, I barely remember the person I was during those days.
As a devoted follower of Spencer, I can say that after embracing parenthood, he expressed deep regret at the prospect of his three kids mirroring his past behavior.
He expressed that he found it quite appealing to not care about anything or anyone, stating, “I will always do as I please, and if you find this disagreeable, then you may express your feelings in a more polite manner.”
I find that rather unimpressive, to put it frankly. It’s not the kind of behavior I’d inspire in my children, whether they are boys or girls. I truly believe it’s unfortunate.
He comments: “I believed it was appealing initially, but now I find myself not finding it particularly appealing anymore.”
In a figurative sense, I viewed it more like a part, not a genuine reality. My greatest fear is my children witnessing such content as they grow up. It’s quite troubling, indeed extremely so. I’ll likely need to clarify to them that it was all staged or something similar.
Spencer is participating in an incredible challenge, where he’ll run 30 marathons over 30 consecutive days, all through the scorching hot desert, to support the Global’s Make Some Noise charity.
He aims to complete a Guinness World Record for the ‘most consecutive marathons on sand’, and completed number 24 on Wednesday.
At the culmination of a lengthy, strenuous trek, Spencer confessed recently that his body feels as if it has been through a spin cycle in a dryer.
He revealed he had to battle ‘horrendous’ attacks and cannot stand still because he would be bitten by flies.
Besides discussing his long runs that last for 15 hours each day, he added that in the intervals, he manages to squeeze in just four to five hours of sleep. Due to this lack of rest, he’s gotten so tired that he’s occasionally nodded off during his runs.
On Capital Breakfast, Spencer remarked: “Flies are just awful. To be honest, if our team had to pick between facing a hyena or dealing with these flies, I believe we’d opt for the hyena, considering there are five of us.”
He added: ‘But also, I can’t stress enough the sleep. It’s like, you’re very, very lucky to get between four-and-a-half and five hours sleep.
‘Repeat that 15 times whilst running 15 marathons in the desert, your body just starts to react really poorly to that. It’s really easy to fall into extreme negative headspace.
Every morning, I feel like I’ve run the first 10 kilometers while only half awake. It’s as if, should my eyes be closed during this stretch, I might trip and fall – that is, unless I’m unconsciously running. We affectionately refer to these initial kilometers as ‘free’ ones since consciousness isn’t required for them, essentially.
However, he added, “Although it’s tough and challenging, let me emphasize that we’re truly enjoying ourselves. This is an awe-inspiring experience, and I consider myself fortunate to be participating in such a unique part of the world.”
Not only are we propelled by the noble objective of supporting Global’s Make Some Noise, but the journey has been an immense joy. However, let me be honest, it has been quite challenging as I’ve already covered approximately 630 kilometers in my run.
Previously, Spencer mentioned that the challenge brings him a sense of ‘connection’ with his brother Michael, who hasn’t come back since he became the youngest British mountaineer to conquer Mount Everest.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: To break the Guinness World Record, I’ll be embarking on an extraordinary journey – covering a distance of 1,266 kilometers entirely on sand. This isn’t just a test of my physical endurance; it’s also a complex logistical challenge, as I won’t be permitted to cross roads, grass, rivers, or any other terrain. Each of the 30 marathons I run will be a mental feat too, pushing me to my limits and beyond. This isn’t just a race; it’s an epic adventure that tests the human spirit!
An assigned overseer will be on hand at each marathon, keeping track of Spencer’s performance so that his completion can qualify for an official Guinness World Record verification.
