The supernatural horror film *Presence*, directed by Steven Soderbergh and featuring Lucy Liu, is now available to stream in the UK after previously being offered for purchase or rental.
This movie centers around a family moving into a new house in the suburbs, where they soon suspect they aren’t alone. Meanwhile, their daughter is dealing with the loss of a friend, and strange events make her wonder if the two are connected.
Soderbergh filmed the movie in a unique way, showing events through the eyes of the entity at the heart of the story. It’s similar to a found-footage film, but in reverse, and the camera work feels more dreamlike and fluid.

Both *LAist* and *AVClub* highlighted the film’s inventive qualities. *LAist* called it a ‘cool little experimental lark,’ noting Soderbergh’s continued willingness to take risks, while *AVClub* appreciated how the film successfully combined intellectual depth with its unique point-of-view technique.
According to *Vulture*, the movie is both a beautifully made art film and a truly captivating horror experience, potentially marking Steven Soderbergh’s best work in years.
I was reading a review in *The Sydney Morning Herald*, and they really praised David Koepp’s screenplay. They said he’s incredibly versatile, just like director Steven Soderbergh, and can handle all sorts of different genres and filmmaking styles with ease.
Honestly, as a fan, I was really impressed with how tightly directed this movie is, and the ending genuinely terrified me! It didn’t necessarily *make* me a believer in ghosts, but it presented the idea in a really smart and convincing way. It’s spooky, but also surprisingly thoughtful.
