Spartacus: House of Ashur Reveals Starz Premiere Date

The popular and gritty Starz series about ancient Rome is coming back after a 12-year hiatus, and we’re finally learning more about it.

Starz revealed that the new series, *Spartacus: House of Ashur*, will launch with two episodes on December 5th, available exclusively on the STARZ app and all Starz streaming services. Along with the announcement, Starz shared new photos offering a glimpse of the show and its intense action. Nick E. Tarabay returns as Ashur, and he’s joined by Graham McTavish (known for *The Witcher*) as Korris, Tenika Davis (*Cabinet of Curiosities*) as Achillia, and Jordi Webber as Tarchon.

Starz is promoting its new series, House of Ashur, as a fast-paced, exciting, and sensual historical drama. The show centers around a compelling question: what if Ashur survived and the Romans, as a reward for his betrayal, sent him to a gladiator school where he had previously fought as a warrior?

Ashur was once a slave, but he’s now become the owner of the gladiator school that once held him captive. However, leading a group of brutal gladiators is easier than navigating the dangerous world of Roman politics, where betrayal is commonplace and even expected. He challenges the established order by introducing Achillia, a skilled and determined female gladiator who aims to prove her strength in a male-dominated arena. Together, they create a shocking and disruptive spectacle that enrages the Roman elite with every battle.

Steven S. DeKnight, the creator, writer, and executive producer of *Spartacus*, will lead *House of Ashur* as showrunner and executive producer. He’ll be joined by executive producers Rack Jacobson (*Ash vs. Evil Dead*) and Aron Helbing (*Mortal Kombat: Legacy*). Lionsgate Television is producing the series for Starz.

The Original Spartacus Series Remains a Streaming Hit 15 Years Later

The *Spartacus* series premiered in 2010, drawing inspiration from the historical Spartacus, who famously led a large revolt against the Roman Republic. Four seasons have been released so far: *Blood and Sand* (2010), *Gods of the Arena* (2011), *Vengeance* (2012), and *War of the Damned* (2013). *House of Ashur* represents a continuation and reboot of the story.

Even though it’s fifteen years old and hasn’t had a new episode since 2013, *Spartacus* is still incredibly popular on streaming services. As of today, FlixPatrol shows it consistently ranks among the top 3 shows on Starz in the US, even reaching number 2. It also remains a top 10 hit in many countries where it’s available on Netflix.

Spartacus: House of Ashur will premiere Dec. 5 on Starz.
