Spaceman Singer Now Makes Movies!

In the ’90s, Babylon Zoo ruled the music charts with their forward-thinking tunes and androgynous fashion sensibilities. Their song “Spaceman” reigned supreme on the charts for a remarkable five weeks straight.

Beyond merely recognized for his music alone, the lead vocalist Jasbinder Singh Mann gained adoration from fans not only for his captivating tunes but also his distinctive appearance. His long hair and futuristic silver garments reminiscent of space age skirts sparked a following of eccentric admirers worldwide.

The band was famously successful, dominating the music charts with their massive hits. Their most popular track stayed at the top of the UK charts for a strong five consecutive weeks in 1996. This song also set a record as the quickest-selling single in the UK within the past three decades.

In my continuous pursuit of personal growth and evolution, I, Jas Mann – or simply Jasbinder to some – have recently opted for a fresh, professional style over my long-standing edgy persona. Now, you’ll find me sporting the sharp look of a businessman and adorning thick-rimmed glasses as part of this new chapter in my life.

Instead of working in the music industry that brought him fame as a 55-year-old songwriter, musician, singer, record producer, and filmmaker, he has opted for a new path by establishing a co-founded film production and distribution company named Virgin India.

Born in Dudley, the musician, currently 51 years old, experienced a consistent ascent to fame. His father hails from Punjab (India), while his mother has Sioux ancestry.

In 1996, one of his most recognized singles, “Spaceman,” from his album titled “The Boy With The X-Ray Eyes,” was showcased in a Levi’s advertisement. This exposure significantly boosted its popularity, propelling it to the number one spot on the charts.

At that moment, Jas explained: “I prefer to express thoughts from the perspective of an alien, not just fantasize about sci-fi romance.

In other words, his mentions about space and extraterrestrials stemmed from a sense of not belonging, as he expressed it by saying: ‘At times, I feel like an insect in a container filled with milk.’

However, his second album King Kong Groover, released three years later, was not so well received.

He commented on one of the songs titled “All The Money’s Gone,” saying, “It’s utterly ridiculous. Only someone who lacks sense could squander the earnings I worked hard for.

Jas was resolute about becoming a big name in the music industry, and indeed, he found success as an indie band member, The Sandkings.

In 2008, he changed his focus from music to films and took on the roles of co-chairman and CEO at the multi-million dollar Indomina Group, a self-governing movie studio.

He also produced two instalments of the Cabin Fever franchise.
