Spaceballs 2 is already cheekily mocking Star Wars in new picture as cast reunites for first time

The team behind *Spaceballs 2* has released the first picture of the cast reuniting, bringing together the original stars and some new additions after almost 40 years. Staying true to the spirit of *Spaceballs*, the photo playfully pokes fun at *Star Wars*.

A black-and-white photo, which has been circulating online, shows the cast – including Rick Moranis, who is returning to acting – relaxing together on a collection of sofas and chairs arranged in a square around a table.

This image is a humorous take on the original cast photo from *Star Wars: The Force Awakens*. Like that photo, it’s in black and white and features a similar arrangement of the actors. A key difference is the object placed behind the director: the *Star Wars* photo included R2-D2, while this parody uses a mini-fridge in the same spot.

The photo features both original cast members from *Spaceballs 2* – including Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and George Wyner – and new additions like Josh Gad, Lewis Pullman, and Keke Palmer.

Mel Brooks returns as a writer and in his iconic roles of Yogurt and President Skroob, though he didn’t direct this time. A laptop sits open in the scene, and a pizza on one of the chairs is a nod to the character Pizza the Hut from the original movie.

The photo also features several props, like a Spaceballs helmet, a fire hydrant, a wig displayed on a mannequin head, and a flyswatter resting on top of a script.

The fire hydrant really stands out and reminds me of Barf, John Candy’s character. With it positioned right next to Gad in the picture, it makes you wonder if Gad is supposed to be playing Barf’s son.

The official announcement is playfully avoiding revealing any actual details. It states, essentially, that the title is likely the movie’s name, and the plot details describe what happens in the story – a rather circular explanation!

Although *Spaceballs 2* won’t be released until 2027, we’re likely to see plenty of fun and quirky promotion leading up to the premiere.

Spaceballs 2 is set to be released in 2027.
