Soulja Boy, cleared of felony weapons charge, finds his release worth singing about

Soulja Boy, a renowned rapper, seemed cheerful with a hint of music in the air, as he rejoiced over a new development in his recent weapons-possession case in Los Angeles.

The artist responsible for the popular song “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” suggested his release from jail on Tuesday, celebrating with an Instagram story where he joyfully sings “first day out.” In a video, the rapper (DeAndre Cortez Way) is seen casually swaying in the passenger seat of a car, displaying his large chain and gold watch while repeating “first day out from prison” over music. Earlier in the day, he had also posted “first day out” on Instagram.

In simpler terms, last Sunday morning, a renowned musician (who has been nominated for a Grammy) was apprehended by the Los Angeles police near his clothing store in Melrose due to suspicion of having a firearm as a previously convicted felon. Later that day, he was detained at the LAPD’s Wilshire Division jail.

Music artist Soulja Boy is dealing with fresh legal troubles. Over the weekend, he was apprehended close to his Melrose Avenue apparel store due to allegations that, as a prior convict, he illegally possessed a gun.

As of now, there are no charges being pursued against Way, as the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office has chosen to dismiss the case against him. This decision was made public on Tuesday, and The Times confirmed it on Wednesday. A representative from the D.A.’s office stated that the case was dropped due to a lack of substantial evidence.

Law enforcement authorities confirmed earlier this week to The Times that Way was apprehended around 2:50 a.m. on Sunday following a traffic stop. They identified him as one of the passengers in the vehicle they had stopped. At the time, police did not disclose the reason for the traffic stop or the identities of any other occupants. However, further details emerged when The Times reviewed case documents on Wednesday.

As per the report, the officers halted a Tesla on account of its darkened windows, and found a gun located beside a suspect in the back seat. However, both the passenger and the driver refused to claim ownership of the weapon, as stated in the document.

The dismissal of charges offers a moment of relief for the artist known for “Kiss Me Thru the Phone,” who has been dealing with legal consequences due to allegations of mistreatment towards women within his circle over the past few years. Most recently, a jury in Santa Monica ruled in favor of a woman who was once his assistant, determining that he had sexually assaulted and both physically and emotionally abused her. The jury awarded her over $4 million in compensatory damages.

Glorilla discusses her latest drug-related detention, explaining it originated from a report of a suspected break-in. She contends that the authorities were concentrating on the incorrect issue instead.

Way’s lead defense attorney disagreed with the decision.

Attorney Rickey Ivie stated in April that the evidence presented did not warrant the verdict reached, regrettably allowing assumptions and misunderstandings about the culture to affect the trial. He further emphasized that Mr. Way plans to exercise his options for appeal and strive for a fair outcome in this case.

Starting next month, Soulja Boy kicks off the Coulda Fest Tour, where he’ll perform alongside rappers BigXthaPlug and Young M.A, comedian Druski, and podcaster Caleb Pressley, along with several other special guests. The tour will reach the Kia Forum in Inglewood during December.
