Soulframe, Warframe successor with Elden Ring vibes, opens up to more players

As a long-time fan of Digital Extremes and their critically acclaimed game, Warframe, I was beyond excited to learn more about the studio’s latest project, Soulframe, during TennoCon 2024. The reveal at this annual celebration of all things Warframe gave us a closer look into the world of Soulframe, and I must say, it looks absolutely captivating.

At TennoCon 2022, Digital Extremes introduced a new game named “Soulframe” during their annual celebration of the popular free-to-play online title “Warframe“. The initial reveal suggested that Soulframe is more tranquil compared to its sci-fi counterpart. A fresh peek at TennoCon 2024 offered a detailed inspection of combat, advancement, and customization aspects. Though development is still in progress for this fantasy adventure game, it’s expected that a prolonged development cycle will suit its laid-back atmosphere well.

As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: Soulframe Preludes is essentially an early access build of the game, where Digital Extremes are gradually letting more players in. In this game, I play as the Envoy, who washes up on the shores of Midrath, a northern island, after a fierce battle that put my loved ones at risk. During the TennoCon digital preview, we were given a sneak peek into the events leading up to the Envoy’s journey. We even got to customize their mother through an emotionally charged song.

Transition to an adult Envoy, now capable of facing mythic adversaries such as Nimrod. The Envoy possesses the power to move between a vast, overgrown landscape filled with ruins, vegetation, and awe-inspiring sights, and a mental sanctuary known as the Nighthold. When the game is paused, the player enters the Nighthold, a spiritual realm inhabited by their Forebears. These supportive Forebears are able to enhance equipment, concoct potions, and construct weapons.

The Soulframe developers held an engaging presentation at TennoCon, dishing out fresh updates about Warframe‘s upcoming features. With elements reminiscent of both Warframe and Elden Ring, this fusion has left me intrigued as a fan of both games. During the event at TennoCon, we were introduced to Verminia, an enchanting rat queen, who graces Nighthold with her presence. Players can now encounter Verminia and have her join their team as a new Ancestor, providing assistance in the form of fashion advice for the Envoy.

As a long-time fan of Warframe, I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of Soulframe. Having witnessed the remarkable evolution of its older sibling over the years, I have no doubt that Soulframe is destined for greatness as well. However, being an early backer, I understand that we’re only at the beginning of this journey. The world of Soulframe is still in its infancy, and Digital Extremes intends to let it grow and develop organically, just like Warframe did before it.

Players can sign up to potentially test out Soulframe Preludes on the game’s official site.

Two years ago, I first heard about Soulframe, but with the recent updates, its features are becoming more defined for me. Warframe has always kept me engaged, and I’m excited to discover how Digital Extremes plans to build upon its proven formula with this new project. Currently exclusive to PC, it won’t be long before we see Soulframe expand to other platforms during its early access phase.
