“Sorry, that’s it”: m0NESY confirms G2 departure as trade to Falcons becomes official

Following a great deal of anticipation, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov has officially departed from G2 Esports and joined Team Falcons, linking up once more with NiKo. This decision marks the end of an award-winning era for G2, as they embark on a new phase of restructuring in preparation for the upcoming CS2 season.

Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov’s tenure at G2 Esports has now concluded, as confirmed by the CEO of G2. The rumors about his potential trade to Team Falcons have been validated. This move will bring m0NESY back together with his previous G2 teammate Niko, signaling the close of an epoch for G2 Esports’ CS:GO team.

The buzz grew following French journalist Guillaume ‘neL’ Rathier’s statement on April 4, suggesting a contract had been signed. It wasn’t long after Team Falcons were declared champions at PGL Bucharest that news broke about m0NESY’s impending move to them. This announcement came mere hours after the Grand Final between m0NESY and his previous team, G2 Esports, was held by Team Falcons.

“Rumors are true” says G2 CEO, confirms transfer

According to a confirmed report, Alban Dechelotte, the CEO of G2 Esports, announced on social media that we are going ahead with the exchange of our promising CS player.

Dechelotte clarified that since m0NESY’s contract was set to expire in December, G2 opted to make the trade immediately rather than waiting until the end of his contract.

Rather than waiting for a late-minute twist, we opted to increase our chances of shaping our team’s future through this trade.

In simpler terms, the CEO of G2 clarified that the player transfer wasn’t a choice made by the management team, employees, or the players themselves; it was a higher-level organizational decision.

I’m really sorry to see Ilya [m0NESY] leaving, but I hope he has an amazing journey ahead and am grateful for the special memories he created for us.

For four years, the team’s previous leadership was unable to secure CS trophies. However, with the current squad and coaching staff, they’ve managed to win six trophies over the past two years, flying the G2 flag at tournaments such as Cologne, Katowice, and several others.

“This was a chapter that made me stronger” – m0NESY

Not long after the deal was finalized by G2’s leadership, m0NESY shared a heartfelt goodbye with the G2 community.

On Twitter, m0NESY expressed gratitude to everyone who had backed both him and G2 throughout their journey, stating that the experience served as a valuable lesson that made him stronger. In simpler terms, he acknowledged support from fans, thanked them, and mentioned that this phase of his career helped him grow.

individuals whose memories I’ll cherish forever, a group that became more than just a team, it felt like an extended family to me. I want to express my gratitude for everything. This chapter of our shared experiences has come to a close. Yet, the tale we wove together continues to resonate within me – it will never fade away.

While the final roster is still unconfirmed, the expected Team Falcons roster is:

  • kyxsan (IGL)
  • TeSeS
  • Magisk
  • NiKo
  • m0NESY
  • Danny “zonic” Sørensen (coach)

At the upcoming BLAST.tv Austin Major in June, it’s anticipated that M0NESY will step into the role previously held by degster on Team Falcons. This will mark his first appearance with the team.

A legacy of wins – career highlights

In February 2022, m0NESY switched teams from Natus Vincere to G2 Esports, and he made his first appearance offline with this new team at IEM Katowice 2022, finishing in second place. Twelve months later, m0NESY and G2 Esports returned to the same tournament, and they emerged victorious. As a result of his successes, m0NESY is currently ranked among the top twenty highest-earning CS:GO players ever.

During his time at G2 Esports, m0NESY won six offline titles:

  • #1 BLAST Premier: World Finals
  • #1 IEM Katowice 2023
  • #1 IEM Cologne 2023
  • #1 IEM Dallas 2024
  • #1 BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2024
  • #1 BLAST Premier: World Final 2024

G2 CEO: “It was obvious that he [m0NESY] was becoming a bit disconnected”

Following their gratitude towards m0NESY for his accomplishments with G2, amassing a total of six trophies, Alban Dechelotte from G2 offered additional insights regarding the reasoning behind their choice.

It became evident that his personal circumstances were causing him to drift away from the team, making it challenging to engage in deep, productive discussions about future prospects with promising individuals, as his situation’s clarity was lacking.

Given that the choice has been finalized, let’s ensure we maximize the remaining three competitions this season while simultaneously working diligently to approach the upcoming season with enthusiasm.

The CEO of G2 stated that G2 Esports is accustomed to assembling teams and fostering talent, and they aren’t hesitant about starting anew or restructuring.
