Sophie Turner shares the special cameo in new ITV crime drama
As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the intricate worlds of various narrative-driven games, I can confidently say that the upcoming ITV drama “Joan” seems to be a real-life RPG that I wouldn’t want to miss. With its 80s London backdrop and a plot revolving around a mother, lover, liar, thief, it promises an exhilarating journey filled with suspense, drama, and perhaps a dash of romance.
In an upcoming ITV drama inspired by her life, it is revealed that Sophie Turner‘s character will be portrayed alongside a character based on Joan Hannington’s actual son, who was a jewel thief in real life.
In the ’80s, London serves as the backdrop for the six-episode drama titled “Joan.” This gripping series explores the rise of a complex character who was known as a “mother, lover, liar, thief,” and it draws inspiration from Hannington’s memoir.
Turner, the actress portraying Joan, had conversations with the cast, crew, and even the genuine Hannington herself during a pre-release Q&A session, prior to the show’s debut later in the month.
The story unfolds around the way Joan crossed paths with her soon-to-be spouse, Boisie Hannington (portrayed by Frank Dillane from “Renegade Nell”), and their subsequent journey into a world of criminal activities, ultimately rising as notorious diamond thieves.
At the specified event, the actor from ‘Game of Thrones’ shared with Digital Spy and other media outlets that filming the encounter between Joan and Boisie was an exceptional experience due to their unique guest appearance.
In the opening scene of the pub, it turned out that the bartender, who was skillfully portrayed by Joan’s son, Benny, was a significant character as he represented the initial encounter between his grandparents. Quite an exciting twist, don’t you think?
We were able to spend time with him, an unusual yet delightful experience, making it quite exceptional in numerous aspects.
Additionally, Turner mentioned that she had the opportunity to interact with the genuine Joan prior to filming the series, which significantly aided her in embodying the character.
She expressed that she had a good understanding of how to portray the character, stating, “I was quite familiar with it, as there is a wealth of detail in Joan’s book and it reflects her unique voice. I immersed myself in it several times, probably around nine or ten.
In simpler terms, finding the final piece was when I met Joan. Every time she enters a space, she captivates everyone, like the brightest light in a dark room. I had yet to grasp her unique charm, and it was that special quality about her that I hadn’t fully understood before.
As soon as I crossed paths with her, I found myself captivated by this mesmerizing lady. It became crystal clear to me then why Boisie held such allure, why countless others were just as enchanted by her charm as she was entranced by her treasures.
On September 29, Joan makes its debut on ITV1. Following the initial broadcast, all six episodes will be accessible on ITVX. Additionally, this drama will be shown on The CW network in the United States.
