Sophie Turner says being a mother helped scenes in new ITV drama

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen his fair share of dramatic twists and turns in both virtual and real-life adventures, I can confidently say that Sophie Turner‘s portrayal of Joan Hannington in ITV’s upcoming drama “Joan” is one to watch. Being a fellow parent myself, I could relate to her emotional investment in the character, as the relationship between Joan and her daughter Kelly forms the heart of this gripping series.

Sophie Turner discusses the impact of motherhood on her performance while filming emotionally charged scenes for her upcoming ITV series, “Joan.

The actor known for “Game of Thrones” will portray the role of diamond thief Joan Hannington in an upcoming six-episode series, scheduled to air towards the end of this month.

In the series, it’s the pivotal moment that drives Joan towards a life of criminal activities: her daughter Kelly, portrayed by Mia Millichamp-Long, gets placed in foster care temporarily, leaving Joan struggling to regain financial stability.

In the narrative, there are poignant moments when Joan entrusts her child to social care, only to face challenges in regaining custody afterward.

Turner discussed the process of getting ready for the intense, emotional sequences while interacting with the cast and crew during a question-and-answer session aimed at publicizing the upcoming series.

She shared with Digital Spy and other media outlets, “I’m a Pisces, known for being highly emotional. However, I also enjoy listening to music and similar activities.

“I’m a mother, anything to do with children, and it just kind of flows out of me.”

Turner has two daughters, Delphine and Willa, who she co-parents with her ex-husband Joe Jonas.

She went on to talk about how that relationship between Joan and her daughter Kelly is the “crux of everything” in the drama.

During the times when we weren’t shooting scenes with Kelly, director Richard Laxton would often approach me between takes and inquire, “Where is Kelly?” as reported by Turner.

In other words, the experience served as an unending reminder of her motivation, because occasionally, while performing in a show that involves heists and sparkling diamonds, one can become engrossed in the glitz and glamour.

“You have to remember that this is to provide a solid and stable life for her daughter, and so she can get her back. It’s really a heartbreaking story, and so we had to constantly be reminding ourselves of that to keep it grounded and to not get too excited.”

On September 29, ITV1 premieres the debut of Joan. After the initial episode, you’ll find all six episodes on ITVX. In the United States, this drama will be broadcasted on The CW network.
