The finale of Game of Thrones sparked a lot of debate, and it seems many of the actors felt the same way as the fans about how their characters‘ stories ended, according to recent news. For almost ten years, the show’s eight seasons were a huge part of pop culture, and it’s now considered one of the greatest TV series ever, known for its unexpected turns.
As a big fan, I have to admit the final season of Game of Thrones just didn’t feel right. It felt really rushed with only six episodes, and a lot of us felt let down by how things ended. Honestly, so many character arcs just didn’t make sense – Daenerys’ death, Jon Snow being sent away, and especially Bran becoming king. It wasn’t just me who felt that way, a lot of fans were disappointed with how the show wrapped up.
In an interview with The Direct, Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark, revealed that several Game of Thrones actors were unhappy with how their characters’ stories concluded. Although Turner herself was pleased with Sansa’s ending – becoming Queen in the North – she stated that her fellow cast members didn’t feel the same way, saying, “No one else was really happy with their ending.” You can find the complete quote below.
I was really satisfied with how Sansa’s story concluded in ‘Game of Thrones,’ and it seemed like most other viewers weren’t as pleased with their character’s endings. Since I felt I got a good resolution, I’m hesitant to revisit the show.

As a fan, it was pretty clear which Game of Thrones actors weren’t thrilled with how things wrapped up, even though the actress didn’t have to say it directly. Several of them have spoken out over time about being disappointed with their character’s endings – even the biggest stars! I remember reading Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, telling The Times back in March 2020 that she found Daenerys’ fate particularly frustrating.
Okay, so as a huge fan of Game of Thrones, I’ve always been a little bothered by how Daenerys’ story ended. Emilia Clarke, who played her, has basically said the same thing! She wasn’t thrilled with Daenerys’ death, and honestly, she felt Jon Snow really got off easy. She even joked he ‘got away with murder – literally!’ She later told The Guardian that dealing with the fallout of her character’s death was really tough, a real challenge for her as an actress.
On August 12, 2024, Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow, discussed the show’s ending in an interview with GQ. He admitted, “I think there were mistakes made, story-wise towards the end maybe.” Like Clarke, he didn’t say exactly what went wrong. Harington actually tried to create a follow-up Game of Thrones series focusing on Jon Snow with HBO, which might have addressed those problems.
The planned spin-off series focusing on Jon Snow has been cancelled and doesn’t appear to be coming back. Kit Harington stated in December 2025 that he’s finished with the role, saying he doesn’t want to revisit it after a decade of playing the character. Meanwhile, Sophie Turner hasn’t ruled out returning to the world of Game of Thrones, playfully suggesting she’d consider it if the financial offer was right.
